Description Drew this as a blackwatch battle mercy sort of piece, I ended up working on the sketch instead of making it an actual piece, I'm definitely going to revisit this piece at some point, when I am more skilled
and can better depict what I wanted to. I designed her armour myself, taking elements from reaper (aka the hood and coat like elements) I think I depicted the alternate 'side' to Mercy pretty well, despite the facial expression being a bit wonky, and the
eye's needing improvement.

Especially since I couldn't really figure out what to do for the background which is pretty annoying, I wanted to give the piece more depth then I did, which is another big reason for me wanting to go back to this at another point in time.
Tell me what you think of it, and what I can improve on!

It's worth mentioning that I learnt how to make create smoke, for the gun barrels using photoshop wizardry. This program has so many intricacies!
(and giving Mercy two guns in this piece was a decision I made, as I wanted to really show the 'battle' side in Mercy, and plus, I thought it'd be cool)

That's what you call a sketch, I call it a work of art, your going to revisit it, revisit it and what, make it even better than it already is?

Haha, thank you! To make it better when I revisit once I improve it is the goal! I've got a lot of things to learn.

Hey, I'm here from ProjectComment and this is my first time writing a comment for a piece of art in this group, so I'll do my best to give you a constructive comment

First let me tell you, that I really love the perspective with the bigger and smaller gun! That's what caught my attention. If I see it right, that's very similar to Reaper, so I guess you've taken inspiration from him, right? I also like the detail you put into the guns and the armour, but I have to say the hood was a little confusing to me because at first glance I thought it was her hair I think the reason for this is that your picture is monochrom (which as I read you want to change when revisiting) and the way it stands up is a little weird. The fabric looks thicker and somehow "rounder" then you'd expect it to be when you see how vivid the ends of the coat fly around. Maybe it could help to make the shading less smooth on the hood and add some more sharp edges for the folds. As you said yourself, the face isn't perfect, but faces are difficutl as hell, so I think you still did a prety good job on it. I don't know if I could give you some actually usefull advice with the face, so I better move on to the background. For this I'd say you should try to make it dark, just like your Mercy. It doesn't need to be very complex, just few colors lighter (but still very gray) on top and darker the way down. But like this you have a huge gap in value. The background is really bright and the Character and all the shades in there are very dark. Realisticly you'd always pick up some colors and reflect some light from your environment. And maybe you could also use some highlights (especially on the metal pieces) to finish your work up ^^

So all in all I think you're on a good way with your drawing journey and I hope I might have helped you a little bit. Keep it up and always remember to have fun

Yeah I took a bit of reference from reaper, with the hood and clock like elements, the guns design, I looked at blackwatch mccree and others from there to see the sort of design they had, and tried to create something that would fit in with their aesthetic. The design still has a lot of room for improvement, but as I said I was just working on the sketch, so this is just an amalgamation of the ideas I had during the drawing, so it's not too bad. I had a bit of trouble with the hood, so I get why it was confusing for you. So I'll be sure to fix that since I'm going back and changing things here and there on it.

The background is the only thing I couldn't really think of something to do with, so thank you for the ideas on how to approach it. I wanted to do something with buildings in it, but couldn't think of an approach.
My rendering does need some work too!

Thank you for taking the time to comment on my piece, the feedback was valuable, I'll be sure to put the things you said into work, and keep them in mind when working on other pieces too!

I'm glad my comment was valuable to you

And for 'just a sketch' I think it's very beautiful and detailed. And if you want to have buildings in the background, do so! I'm not a pro in drawing buildings, but I'd say, be careful to not make the buildings more detailed than mercy or they will steal the attention. Maybe it would also help to run around in some overwatch maps and make screenshots if you find a nice place to portray in your drawing. This way you can get a feeling for the shapes and shadows of buildings and choose the perfect angle. And don't worry too much about rendering, I'm sure it'll naturally come over time

And thank you very much for your watch! I really appreceate it

That's a pretty good idea, I definitely should go and do that! Thanks for the idea.
as for rendering, yeah you're right. It's all about putting the time in to improve!
You're welcome for the watch, you've got a great gallery! Keep up the great work.

Thank you! That's true it'll also give me a chance to add depth to the piece. I would like to do this in colour, instead of the colour I was using to make the sketch of this
