Even though he was best known for his horror stories, Edgar Alan Poe invented the detective story and, if I recall correctly, was a great poet as well.  He was definitely a deep man.

Another good horror story was "The Masque of the Red Death".  I remember reading that one.  While I can write, I'm not very good with short stories in general and horror stories in particular.

I'll take a look at it.  Like I said, I'm not really into horror stories (I hate being scared.) but I'm sure it's better than anything Stephen King ever wrote.  (In case you haven't figured it out, I'm no fan of him.)

I tried to read one of his books and after 5 chapters I put it down knowing as much about the book after those chapters as I did before I picked it up.  However, it did serve one good purpose.  It taught me how to NOT write a book.  LOL.

Yes.  Now I know to make sure that the reader knows what's going on as soon as is feasible.

I've never read anything by him.  But, I do believe he's supposed to be the premier horror writer today.  I'm not really into horror, although I've read "Frankenstein's Monster" and "Dracula" neither of which I would consider horror.

Well, if the movies had followed the books closer, they wouldn't have even remotely been scary.  Dr. Frankenstein merely sewed body parts together and his monster came to life.  No electricity was used, if I recall correctly.  Plus, the monster was quite intelligent not the dumb brute killer than Hollywood made him out to be.  When Dr. Frankenstein died in the book, the monster killed himself.  Dracula was almost a minor character in his own story.
