Description
For kilometres in every direction, there’s no other house to be seen. Right now, it’s nearing summer. There is still green everywhere; the grass hasn’t dried out yet. In the winter, it may or may not snow, depending on where the place is. The house has electricity and Wi-Fi, but it’s barely used. Because it’s surrounded by lush trees, grass, even a forest, animals…. So you can spend your days lying in the grass doing nothing. Decide your own free and work days. And work, work is creative, work earns just enough for what you need, work is from home and on the days you want. The rainy days are for working, the sunny days for relaxing. This is the only place where you can go without human contact for weeks and not even notice it. When friends come over, they don’t just “hop by”. You’re so far away from the world; when they come, they come for days. The best ones come for weeks, your place is their holiday. It doesn’t matter, because the house is small enough to not be lonely, but big enough to have some privacy. And because it’s old, and wooden, any dust that appears on the place seems like it just belongs there. It’s the only place you can be left alone with your thoughts, without the thoughts turning dark.
Sometimes, you need to do less relaxing things. Driving to the store to get food in an example. You need to drive, because you’re so far away no public transport gets there. So you have your own car to get out of that place once in a while, and go to the store. You buy your food and you come back home. A home you never need to leave during vacation. And when you just absolutely do not feel like going into a human populated area, you can always hunt your own food, because that’s allowed in this place. It’s way healthier, and puts some action in your life. Your friends shake their heads but what do they know.
Sometimes all that is still a lot to do on your own. And sometimes you feel like you do want to see the world. When you’re not feeling well, there’s no-one nearby to take care of you. So sometimes having one other person under that roof with you sounds like a good idea. Someone you’ve known for a while; someone you can trust.
But I’ll be in a place I like, so it doesn’t matter.
