Audition
Name: Aleksandr “Red” Engel
Age: 18
Gender: Male
Height: 6’0”
Weight: 175 lbs
Appearance: Bright red hair pulled back into a very short ponytail, blue eyes, tanned skin, generally scruffy and dirty looking, lean and tall, old pair of dark jeans and a belt, old and faded green long sleeve shirt. Battered sneakers that are falling apart. One tattoo on his left shoulder, two concentric circles.
Personality: Red is quiet and fairly smart. He’s read more than the average orphan and more than many Capitol citizens. He has a very good memory, and he’ll often remember useful bits of information from his books. He won’t say more than a few syllables to most people, and only a handful have ever managed to get him to open up. He’s a good scavenger and good at making things useful, since he never had very much. He’s a bit clueless when it comes to any sort of technology or people, but he has decent knowledge of survival skills for a Capitol kid.
History: Red grew up in a Capitol orphanage. He never knew his parents, but nobody came to his area of the city to adopt kids. He and the other orphan never had quite enough food or new clothes. Red, the quiet kid, often sat in the old, dusty attic that no one went into and read the books that even the orphanage directors had forgotten about. As he grew older, other orphans would pick fights with him because they thought he was a wimp. Sometimes he won, but mostly he lost. He rarely talked to the other orphans and had few friends. During the food shortages during the Rebellion, Red learned how to scavenge and steal so that he could get enough food, because most of what the orphanage did get went to the “adoptable” kids. When even more kids showed up at the orphanage after the rebellion, he started stealing all his food and clothes. His best friend, Aly, lost all her siblings to the silver parachutes outside the presidential mansion, and she was basically a walking corpse after that. For five years, Red hasn’t had any friend. He had just turned eighteen and was hoping to find a job outside of the Capitol slums when he was reaped.
Other: Red has no idea who his parents were, nor does he particularly care. No one ever uses his given name, Aleksandr Engel, as he rarely tells anyone his real name. Red is an easier name to use, anyway. He stays up in the orphanage attic and climbs out the window when he needs to leave. The orphanage staff has more or less forgotten about him.
