Description Commission for four characters from 'The Peasant's Revolt', his White Wolf Vampire game set in medieval Winchester. From left to right you have:  Daniel da Treviso, Gunnilda of Westgate, Matthew Fitz-Ranulf and Magdalene de la Croix. I had a lot of fun with this one!

I love this! Great moonlight - you're really good at getting the night sky! I love how you drew all the different characters too, and the background details like the rosebushes and building and tree all work together really well.

Thank you so much! I'm so glad to hear that, I love painting night scenes so it's good to know they come out ok. The hospital was such a challenge, I'm not very good at drawing buildings.

Thank you!

Yay!!!! I've missed your art so much!!! This is a fantastic commission, I love how much effort and detail you've put both into the foreground with the rose bushes and the background with the cathedral and the moon is beautifully painted, you can almost 'feel' the glow. This looks like an intriguing story idea, I might have to check it out!

Thank you so much! Yeah, I've been drawing less because of the comic - now I will be starting classes so I'll have even less time!
I was pretty happy with the background, much more architecture than I usually do, so I'm glad you like it!

A very nice piece of work- I really like the way you are posing your characters; it looks so natural and manages to suggest something of the personality of the character you are portraying. Anatomy and proportion continue to improve and your use of these muted colours also.  Well done!

Thank you! I'm glad there is improvement in anatomy and proportions, I hope there will be more!

I've been meaning to ask you, apropos- how is the Fine Arts program application going?

Well I got in, the course I will be doing is a full-time course in Graphic Design, and we start in October. I heard the workload is rather big so I'm not sure how much drawing I'll be able to do in my own time, but hopefully I'll manage!

Superb! I do love the setting, despite mentions of a revolt, it seems so peaceful (I was going to visit Winchester this year but didn't!). I sort of really like Daniel's face lol, he looks quite down-to-earth, and Magdelane's expression is also wonderful mischievous. You used such a great set of natural colours too for their outfits

Thank you! I've never been to Winchester either but I heard it's very well worth visiting. Lot's of interesting things to see, the Hospital of St.Cross, depicted here being one among many. Of some smaller but interesting tidbits, I think Jane Austen's grave is in Winchester as well!
Thanks! I think Daniel was my favourite too actually.

Yes indeed, Jane Austen's house is there, that was one of the reasons we were going to go, but then we considered the price of travel and the time, and then the price of getting in to just wander around a house...and we decided it wasn't a cost we'd be willing to pay at the time.

She's buried in the north nave of the Cathedral. The house where she died is only five minutes walk away. It stands next to Winchester College, one of the oldest schools in England, founded by Bishop William of Wykeham - who was alive and highly active when this picture was "taken".

This is so amazing! You did a great job of posing four characters in one scene and making their poses very natural. I like Magdalene's pose the most; you did her leaning pose on Matthew very convincingly! Daniel's facial features are also very striking and I like how everyone's faces are unique and recognizable.

And your commissions are open again? I'm interested

Thank you so much! It was pretty tough posing so many but in the end I was really pleased with how they came out. Glad you like Daniel - I was quite happy with his face. He's a handsome one!

I will be doing the commissions! I will write a journal about it soon!

JezMiller In reply to charcoalfeather [2017-09-07 19:13:31 +0000 UTC]

Ah-ha! One of the very first things I said when I saw the preliminary sketch was that I loved Magdalene's pose and expression, and please don't change it. Obviously I'm not the only one to see it! It suits her personality very well, and her relationship with Matthew - they are definitely the rogues of the group, while the other two are rather more moral and compassionate. The varied personalities of the different characters really do shine through.

Superb, isn't it? I commissioned akitku because I liked her medieval imagery in "The Change" so much, but most of the scenes there tend to be smaller and more intimate. Even after I'd seen the final sketch, I wasn't expecting something quite this... spectacular, but it was a delightful surprise when I saw the full affect with those amazing colors.

Yes, she is really good at expressions and intimate scenes! I want to commission her a scene with a similar feel as well.

I always love how your characters look. Too often medieval era fantasy clothing/characters look like they comes right out of an anime or gentlemen's magazine. I MUCH prefer this!
Anywho, nice work.

akitku In reply to jonwassing [2017-09-08 09:40:39 +0000 UTC]

Thanks so much! I know what you mean, very often medieval fantasy has very little to do with the 'medieval' part. I like to put research into my costumes, though in this case the commissioner had tons of research done himself!

jonwassing In reply to akitku [2017-09-08 13:46:21 +0000 UTC]

That's good.
As an annoyingly detailed requester of commissions I can relate to pouring a ton of research into my characters.
42Ly did an awesome piece for me and commented on my abundance of detail. I probably annoyed them, but I can't help it: my characters are my babies.
