Ooh! Nice page, particularly with so many humans and horses all together in the same shots!
(I know you don't much like drawing architecture, but the backgrounds look great here!)

Gosh, that makes me so happy! Thank you! (And I hope I won't disappoint!)

This is really great. It must have been difficult to draw so many people! I like how you did the blur on the lower picture. The guy with the brown hair in the front at the bottom (back view) is Amalfi, right?

Thank you so much! Yeah, it was pretty challenging.
Actually it's not Amalfi (though he does look like him a bit, I now realized). It's Guillaume, the guy from this page: The Change - Page 04

Ah, right, makes sense. Since he had just appeared on that page, he'd be here too, from the back. Now he's going to be addressing all of them. Who's the blond guy next to him?

akitku In reply to charcoalfeather [2017-02-20 19:06:33 +0000 UTC]
Yup, precisely! He'll finally explain some things. The blond one is a guy from a different commandery, who came with news; so the whole plot kind of turns on his appearance.

Ah, nice to see how everything will be gradually revealed!

Wonderful job with this page, it's impressive how you showed so many characters, horses and beautifully drawn architecture in the same drawing!

Thank you so much for checking this out (and the other pages). I'm glad you like it. Yeah, it was a bit of a squeeze to get them all into the picture. And horses are so tricky...

Wow- there's a couple of well drawn panels, not to mention the two inserts at the top. And excuse me, is that a female knight background left? A lay horsewoman? She doesn't appear to be dressed for battle, but I kinda doubt you included her just for someone to hold the bridle. Do tell!

I'm so glad this page works! I was worried I make mine too simple - I just use rectangular panels and the layout is always very straightforward.
Ah, actually that's a teenage boy - a sergant in fact, which is why he is dressed in lighter garb. I'm afraid in this short story there will actually be no women characters! (Which is surprising for me, I know). In the main plot (the one I was drawing the watercolours for) there were many. But this is really just an 'origins' snippet of sorts...
As you know because of the historical contexts, I'm always of two minds about female characters - obviously there is lots of room for fascinating femaleΒ characters of the non-military professions. But the military women are always tricky - only because I'm never sure how much historical accuracy I want. In general when it comes to characters and plot devices, I think I'm trying to go for 'historically appropriate' rather than 'historically accurate'...So while I don't rule out female knights for example, I try to show that there is always a story that explains this or that lady's military background. In this particular tale, we even included two female knights in the Order. But they are referred to as 'brother', and it is emphasized that their situation is quite exceptional.Β But this comes much, much later.
Haha, as always I answer with a wall of text! Sorry!

I'm really enjoying this comic of yours, and part of it is seeing you in the role of storyteller for a change! I think is is great to see what your thought processes are in creating a plot, so please keep the explanations coming when you find time. Β

Release the horses! I love how everyone is waiting so patiently after the rush and bustle of getting ready, also I like how you unfocused the background characters in the bottom panel by leaving them unrefined. Who's the new trim blondie with Guillaume (that is Guillaume right?)Β
I like Attitude Man with his arms folded to the left next to the man with the scar, I also like how they have their shields over a shoulder

Armor can make it hard to distinguish anyone! But i like that all of these men standing here have such distinct features; all dressed the same, yes, but they're all thinking about different things, you can tell.

Nicely done with the perspective in the last pannel. Also, admit it: horses are a pain to draw ain't they?

Thanks so much for the comment!
Haha, yes they are! You know what's the worst for me? The eyes. Obviously the legs, the arch of the neck and all that is tricky - but for me it's the eyes. I have no idea how to draw them in such a way that they won't look silly or creepy...
