Description Clothing & appearance references for the major races in my novel series.

If I move the men and women closer to each other, it looks like the men are touching the women's butts.

From left to right:

Sverbian (Scandinavian influence)
Rin (Pacific Northwest First Nations influence)
Ferish (Mediterranean influence)
Gallnach (Gaelic influence)

You do some pretty epic paintwork. Love the sharpness and realism of it all.

One tip, if I may: you can give yourself a bit more artistic freedom when painting faces. These characters look like they are brothers and sisters, all of the same family. If you want more diversity (especially since you say they are different races), try some different noses, ears, mouths -- but start with the eyebrows! These arched ones are one very specific (and in my experience, quite rare) type.

That said, great work. It should be good fun seeing these people in action.

Thanks! Haha yeah, I literally made them all from templates, so the faces are almost exactly the same except for a few tweaks. I was mostly focused on clothing design here, but I'll see about changing the faces more whenever I get back to it.

The clothing design looks great! Sorry for failing to mention that

I wonder if all Sverbians have such luscious beards...

Very interesting...

Yes, all. Even the women.

In seriousness, many of the men do. They're basically Viking lumberjacks.

I agree with Rhelna, they're my favorite race, just from this drawing alone. Or actually, it might also be because I have a race of Scandinavian influence in one of my own stories...

You're drawn to the beard just like Rhelna , aren't you? (Ooh, which story?) I couldn't pick a favourite race. Maybe I know too much about it. Every time I think of a possible reason, I'm like 'wait, but this!'

Purely in terms of clothing, my faves are Gallnach (I love a man in a kilt) and Rin (shirtless guys yesplz.) 2/2 of my other friends voted Sverbian, but from an artistic standpoint it might be my least favourite because it's closest to stock-standard medieval fantasy.

I love kilts! Wore one on stage once, during a gig. Not a traditional one, but one of those gothy strap kind.

And I do like the beard, but it wasn't all. It was actually the Scandinavian influence you mentioned. I like vikings, pagan mythology, winter, heavy iron weapons... all that. Add the fact that they make the best death metal music.

My own Scandinavian-esque race is from my sci-fi series Skeleton Crew. They're called Ursans.

Niiiice. I'd kill to see a picture of you in a kilt.

Yeah, I love both modern and historic Scandy culture. Sadly I couldn't work death metal into the book, but there is lots of drumming, which is probably the 17th century equivalent. The scene I'm writing now for book 2 takes place in a Sverbian mining town on an inlet through the mountains, so it feels very much like the Norwegian fjords.

Cool, maybe I'll give that a read one day, though sci-fi's not really my thing and it looks like you have a ton of other stories I'd probably read first.

Sadly don't own that kilt anymore, but I may buy another in the future, if I starting playing live shows again...

Lol! I keep saying fantasy isn't my thing, but yet I found myself beta reading (and enjoying) three amateur fantasy novels just in the last year... What with all you've said so far, I think I might enjoy Sail, too.

But omgnoooo. Everything I have up is so... mistaken-ridden and not up to my best standard...! I don't recommended reading Inside Erin at the moment because it's on the docket for a massive overhaul that will make the first 20 chapters practically non-canon...
edit: typos

I think you might like Sail. It's closer to alternate history than Tolkien-style fantasy, plus I wrote it with one eye on current social issues. Indigenous land rights, racial violence, that kind of stuff. I pulled the sample chapters from dA for now, but one day you'll be able to read it if you so desire.

Haha, noted. If I get some reading time, I'll be sure to ask you first what's in good enough shape.
