Description
This is what I worked on during my free time this winter
. It is a realistic illustration of an atoll. The sky is based on a photograph but the rest is made from scratch, by painting on top of Vue renders.
I had lots of different passes, like, sand, textured sad, trees, underwater vegetation, corals etc. Lots of color correction and painting to make everything fit together, but the end result is quite nice I think.
I am quite curious to see what you think about it.

Is that a mate painting or a rendering? what soft did you use?

It is a matte painting based on several renderings. I used E-on Vue and Adobe Photoshop.

Wow, were the coral reefs seperate terrains with different materials? I even thought it was a photomanipulation at first, I think what really makes it realistic is simply the debris on the sand, I have a habit of making beaches too "clean" and perfect that I forget that there would be gritty stuff lining the beaches

Yes , the coral reefs were separate terrains with a displacement material. I plan to build a nice making of for this one where you will see the entire process.

Oh good, I remember I did a peice with visible coral reefs in shallow water over a year ago, and that's the same method I used too (though without displacement
