Description I know there's an anti-"saying thank you" stamp going around, and that's fine. People are entitled to their opinions, but I'm going to keep saying thank you because I feel like its the right thing to do when someone takes the time and leaves a nice comment (or maybe a generic one that I STILL appreciate) or faves one of my deviations.

I never really expect a "you're welcome" back when I express my gratitude for a nice comment. But I think it's funny when people respond and say "your welcome"...

I realize it's the internet, and people don't even type in real words, and people have even made up imaginary words, and that some of those people even use those imaginary typed-up words vocally in real life (which is awkward -- 'double-u tee eff' doesn't really mean anything to me when it's said out loud) ... but I think it's never been more clear to me since joining dA that in the virtual world people still don't know the difference between "your" and "you're."

So here it is:

You're welcome = You are welcome (the apostrophe takes the place of the "a" and the two words become one, You + are = "You're)

Your welcome = ... ? My welcome? Saying this means that you're pointing out an object of mine, and in this case, my welcome. It would be like saying "Thank you," "Oh, your toaster." "Oh yes, that's my toaster."

So in summary: it's "You're welcome." That's all. Even if you don't know how to use the different yours, try to brainwash yourself into using this one because it'll always be the you+are version when you're saying "You're welcome."

Disclaimer: Written in a slightly sarcastic tone with a little bit of good intention behind it. Honestly, I appreciate all comments, thank yous, your welcomes, you're welcomes, and your toasters.

I can't believe to what I read. Native English speaker that don't know the difference between 'your' and 'you're'!
Even foreigners with poor English language skills know the difference.

well it's not lmao

"your welcome" my welcome what? i do not own a welcome, a welcome is not a noun/object, therefore 'your' wouldn't be used in that context xD
the phrase is 'you are welcome' and 'your' does not equal 'you are' sooo

im not triggered im just sayin

I've noticed more and more deviants who suffer dyslexia on this site.
And I'm meeting more and more people who are dyslexia offline too.

I know some people are just lazy or do not pay attention.
...However, it really makes me wonder when there are so many with this problem.

Also, some people say, "I could of done the assignment, but I chose not to." People ponder what is wrong with the sentence. In case you didn't notice, the phrase isn't "could of", "should of" or "would of". Because of the mispronunciation, people even write the phrase wrong, but the correction is "could have", "should have", or "would have". The correction of the sentence would be "I could have done the assignment, but I chose not to."

How many people HAVEN'T taken English classes?

I agree with this; some people also think that the frozen delight is a "sherbert". However, it is spelled "sherbet", but people can be so arrogant thinking that it is spelled wrong.

Well forgive me for saying this: But some people have LD's who don't understand, the difference sometimes like me. Sure I don't use that as an excuse...but NOBODY is perfect in grammar and nobody should be labeled,as stupid for getting a few words mixed up.

I merely put 'your' because my mail is so piled up; I can't help but just put 'your' and get on with it. Yeah I don't mind people when they spell wrong and or spell with the wrong type of heterographic word (if that made remotely any sense the way I put it). But I guess your completely right on this and will try to get into the habit of putting You're instead of Your! Have a nice day, Dearie!

Made my day! Seriously, It's so annoying as well when people mix up "being" and "been" as well as "there", "their" and "they're". "Where" and "were" are annoying too. I understand the whole 'English is one of the hardest languages to learn', and the people for whom it isn't a mother language then I understand the mistakes but not if it's your first language. xD

AladdinsFan In reply to cara-bailey-ilu [2011-05-06 00:02:40 +0000 UTC]

Nice point. And I think that people who are "learning" English are probably the best at grammar compared to native speakers. Because if you're learning the difference between the different "there" words then it's pretty obvious.

cara-bailey-ilu In reply to AladdinsFan [2011-05-06 13:02:15 +0000 UTC]

I never thought of it like that. If you learn it when you're older then it's hard to tell the difference, but, if it's something you learn at once, it's easier. Good way of thinking! xD

Your Toaster!
That's something that always bothers me. I hate it when people confuse "your" and "you're." And "there," "their," and "they're." And "were" and "where." But then everyone who knows me knows that I'm a stickler for the correct word (you'd think these wouldn't be too hard though, right?) And it's not just people in the internet who do this either; a lot of my classmates do that (what I don't get is how they made it out of elementary school.)

P.S.: I'm not trying to be mean, so please don't take it that way. I'm just voicing my honest opinion.
