Description My eyes are still watering from coloring this (I have a tendency to forget to blink when I'm doing digital work. I'm not sure why, but boy does it sting when you suddenly remember to do so.)

Anyway, this is a Forest Troll, a spin off of the trolls of Changeling the Dreaming. My husband thought them up and asked that I draw one for him. The original line work was done in pencil, and then colored in PS7.

In all honesty I came up with them after playing World of Warcraft too much one day. They are based slightly off of the Amani Trolls from that game... only not mean.

***

In the days before the Shattering the Forest Trolls lived in the vast forests of central Europe (my take on the Dark Ages is different than Dark Ages: Fae. I use Changeling: the Dreaming as a basis, not completely changing the game around). They battled against Sidhe, believing their dominance over the more common kiths to be amoral. They desired the "release" of their northern cousins from the clutches of House Aesin... little did they realize that most of the northern trolls (Ice or Snow Trolls at this time... in my world there are many different types of trolls.) willingly served the Sidhe, and the others did so out of honor.

In time, the Forest Trolls migrated via faerie trod to the untouched wilds of what we call North America. They lived amongst the native peoples for so long they eventually forgot where they came from. This led to two distinct branches of the Kith. Those who remained in Europe and those who migrated to the New World.

Upon the Shattering, those who remained in Europe underwent the Changeling Way Ritual, but were few in numbers due to their battles against the Sidhe. Over the years of the interregnum their numbers grew slightly but they are a very small Kith. With the migration of mortals to the New World these Kithain, like their northern cousins, made contact with the fae of North America and specifically their lost brothers. Of course, the Shattering for the Nunnehi led to a change in their world as well.

The North American Forest Trolls adapted as best as they could, but their dream was not as solid in the minds of the native peoples. By the modern times they are some of the rarest of the Nunnehi. Forest Troll Kithain are few in number as well, but they have been able to survive much better than their native brothers.

One is able to find Forest Trolls of both varieties any place that is wooded. They have taken a distinct liking to the Redwood Forests of California, the New Jersey Pine Barrens, the woodlands of central Canada and the Olympic Forest of Washington State.

Realm Affinity: Nature

Birthrights:
Dexterous- Due to their affinity for forests and treetop freeholds/glens the Forest Trolls are very lithe and have dexterity beyond that of a normal human. They receive two dots in Dexterity.

Camouflaged- While in a woodland setting the Forest Trolls are masters of their realm. They have the ability to sneak about the forests nearly unseen. They receive a +2 to their stealth rating while in the woods, +1 if they are merely in the wilderness. They loose this bonus in cities (that includes city parks and the like).

Frailty:
Heart of the Forest- The Forest Trolls live for the woods. They cannot be away from their wilderness homes for long stretches at a time. Should a Forest Troll spend longer than seven days away from the woods they loose their Dex bonus. Should they let a Full Moon pass while out of their natural setting they begin to loose willpower. 1 point of willpower is lost per night not spent in the forest after the night of the full moon. Once she returns to the forest she must spend one night there for each point of Willpower and Dex she has lost. Her lost points will not return until ALL of this time has been fulfilled. (eg. A forest troll goes to the city and spends the two weeks leading up to the full moon there. She looses her Dex bonus. She spends the night of the full moon in the city and does not return to her home for three nights after. She looses 3 points of willpower. Once she returns home she must spend 5 nights in the forest, 1 for each point of Willpower and 2 for the points of dex lost.)

If he ever does a writeup on it I'll post it here. I remember he originally had them originate in the black forests of Germany and they came over to the Americas via Trod before the shattering. They share a similar method of survival to that of the Nunnehi.

hmmm very interesting. I think a lot of different kins of fae went sorely underdeveloped. I figure it's up to the creative minds of the players to help fill them in more.
