I think baby Ceratosaurus were bigger, maybe half the size of their parents head. Great painting!!!

Other than the shrink-wrapping, I like it.

From 2H to 6B. And any kind of point, from "fusain" to fine point.

This is one of the best Paleo illustrations I have ever seen. I wonder if some day I will have the patience to draw scales.

Scales are so boring and long to draw. This artwork was done before I bacame a father... Today such level of detail is impossible for me. And I'm not sure it's the best way to bring evocation. I try to draw differently today.
And man, I like your work very much!

I've been wondering for a while why you didn't have this particular work in your gallery. I have always admired it, ever since it won 3rd place (or was it first?) in that paleoart contest a few years back. In my opinion, it is your finest work, and one of the best examples of high-quality paleoart in the past decade. I can only imagine the long hours spent creating this masterpiece. It's difficult to describe its near-infinite awesomeness without resorting to the use of profanity and numerous strings of emoticons.

Wow, this is brilliant! I am immediately drawn to the adult's eye, which is beautifully rendered. Then I noticed the hatchlings, who are utterly, abominably CUTE.

The general layout of the scene is beautiful, and I also think the coloring (shading, toning, patterning... whatever) on the Ceratosaurus is very natural-looking. Including the chick's little stripes.

As far as the wattles go, perhaps the females and juveniles don't have them? A thought... though that makes me picture some poor male Cerat going through puberty and freaking out 'cuz some great fleshy lump started growin' out of his head...

btw~I have loved this image since the first time I saw it. It's nice that you've revisited it.

Question on technique: I'm working really hard to get scales to look real in my work; what kind of process do you use?
