I've been dying to design a betta fish dragon for the /longest/ time and it's actually been a huge struggle to come up with a design that has a nice mix of dragon and betta fish, but also a little twist to it. So when I was at work the other day, it just suddenly hit me and I ended up sketching the fella out during my work shift. I KNOW BEST EMPLOYEE but I just needed to get him down on paper and I couldn't be happier with the end result.
Anurak is heavily based off my betta fish, Amor. Not so much with the colors, but how he behaves and the biggest attitude in the world and too much sassiness that it just radiates off of him. I don't know if you all remember my betta fish, but you can find pictures of him here c: [link] (On my tumblr). I'll probably make more of these guys because I just love love love how this first guy came out and there are so many different types and colors of bettas that the possibilities are just endless.
I feel like I could have gone a bit more into character information on this one, but for now it's kind of a mix between some quirks and stuff with a little bit of betta fish dragon information that will help flesh his behaviors and such a bit more. I might go back and change a few things, but I'm not sure :I

I have two questions for you (in my noobish ways OTL)
how do you get such smooth lines? Do you use a pen tool, etc?
and where do you get your textures? I can never seem to find the ones that everyone else uses >>

I actually don't use a pen tool c: I used to use them for long tails and such, but I got tired of how the results looked. Now I freehand everything. I try to draw my lines in quick and fluid motions c:

Oh my gosh my bettas would make sexy dragons...my one, Caeser, is a crown tail with an iridescent pink body, blood red fins, and pastel green streaked through out.

Goodness, I ADORE this design. DAT FACE <3 You combined the betta aspects of it perfectly into the dragon form and i love how you fitted betta behavior into it.... I can't unsee these guys in tropical streams now.
Reminds me of my own betta I used to have, save it was female and totally chill-lax.
