I think this can be called a critique spree..
I do have to say here, although I really like the behaviour shown in this shot, I don't think it's one of your best. Composition wise i'm not sure. I'm generally not a big fan of center frame positioning, and you yourself admitted to not liking the cropping of the ears, but it's not bad.
The part that really sets this shot apart is the behaviour you caught. It takes a fair bit of skill to catch a moment like this with perfect clarity, and here you gave the fox emotion, which really adds to the overall impact. You've caught the colours, as usual, beautifully, with the vivid yet life like tones we now expect from wildlife photos, and the colour contrasts really draw the eye to the center of the frame.
All in all it's a nice shot, but not one of your best. It's a brilliant example of caught behaviour, which under the circumstances can justify some small errors in the general photo.

I don't think it's that bad to be honest, I am annoyed with the ears, but I don't think it's that serious. Also it was a split second moment, I literally only had a tiny chance to get it and I wasn't even in position, so to get it all is pretty amazing.
I see what you mean about the composition, but it's not completely central, I was focused on the left eye, so yep, not central

AMAZING facial expression! This and the other two shots that showed up in Forest World today are so expressive, I didn't know foxes could get such human looks!
I've only ever seen a fox once, and then just a split-second glance at its face and then its rear end as it raced off. Never again since.
