A boatman rows his small wooden craft along the Da Yunhe (Grand Canal) between Wangling and Xuguanzhen in China's Jiangsu province. Travelling from Beijing to Hangzhou, a distance of more than a thousand miles, it remains the world's largest man-made waterway.Photograph taken March 1989.
