Description

The massively scarred face of Mam Tor in the Peak District National Park in Derbyshire. It is also known as the Shivering Mountain because of its frequent landslides. The road you can see used to be the A625 between Sheffield and Chapel-en-le-Frith but was frequently closed to clear the debris from landslides and rebuild the road. Authorities finally admitted defeat in 1979 and the section of the road was closed for good, being redirected through nearby Winnats Pass.

Photograph taken April 1987.

Lovely photo When was this particular photo taken? I went to the Peak District not long ago, last year. Isn't it lovely?

1987 - thanks for reminding me I'd forgotten to add the date! I've always loved the Peak District since I started visiting as a student in Sheffield in the 70s, and the walks around Mam Tor are one of the best parts for me.
