The Step Pyramid of Djoser at Saqqara in Lower Egypt. Built as a series of six mastabas of diminishing size during the 3rd Dynasty, 27th century BC approximately, for the mortuary remains of the Pharaoh Djoser (Zoser), it is recognised as the first of the true Egyptian pyramids.
