The Stardust brigade was founded in UC 84 following the terror attacks on several space colonies by the earthnoid supremacist group known as the Titans. The attacks were performed during the middle of the military restructuring efforts meaning many ships were already in drydock and not on patrol allowing for Titan stealth Mobile suits that had been developed in secret to gain close access to several colonies and release poison gas into them in the same vein of what happened in operation British. All in all 11 colonies were gassed with almost all the inhabitants dead with the only survivors escaping thanks to modifications to bunker filtration systems. The ultimate loss in life equalled almost 500 million people. When several Titan mobile suits were engaged many were able to run rings around the now ageing's Zakus of the colony security forces and even the advanced Gelgug where having trouble with the most advanced craft. This sent a shockwave throughout the Empire and there was outrage at how what was believed to be the most powerful military in human history was defeated by what was thought to be ill-equipped terrorists. This was due to the combination of the United maintenance plan and the emperors hold on most new mobile suit development believing that the suits of the United maintenance plan as well as the at the time newest models from the end of the one year War were more than necessary to defeat the Federation seeing as they believed the holdouts contained no manufacturing capabilities. This of course prove them wrong. There was outcry for something to be done and the improve responded.

Emperor Gihren met with his close time friend and confidant Admiral Aiguille Delaz. Whilst it recently began finalising plans for leaving the military entirely gear and was able to convince his old friend that he was the only one ruthless and capable enough of leading a great anti-terror movement. It didn't take much convincing as he already was outraged at the attacks and wish to do something. This led to the formation of the Stardust brigade. The Brigade was given imperial authority to deter anti-imperial terrorism by almost any means necessary and were granted night impunity from military judicial and even most governmental restrictions only answering to the Emperor and a few other figures. This was believed to be necessary in order to prevent such an event from happening again. The brigade would also receive a great amount of funding as well as its own facilities in space and on Earth, manufacturing locations, resource points in order to raise their own funding and even the Fortress of A Baoa Qu and the former Federation military base of Jaburo. On the military side of things the Stardust brigade was granted a large personal fleet made up of the recently introduced and highly advanced Musai final production type as well as the more numerous fleet standard Musai Kai as well as their mobile fortress the Degwin class supercarrier the "Pax Zeon"which acted as a noble base of operations. On the mobile suit front the Emperor Gihren had recently authorised the full-scale production of an entire new generation of mobile suits as for the Stardust brigade Admiral Delaz had a different plan in mind. Using his new resources and wealth he organised his own mobile suit production programme. He wanted to break with traditional Zeon strategy of having a large variety of specific suits for specific purposes and instead wanted to focus on a core of around 15 to 20 standard designs that can be modified for specific purposes. With this in mind he ordered his forces to combine elements of both Federation and Zeon design to create what he believed would be the perfect combination of Federation utility and Zeon speciality. The results were mobile suits such as the RMS-106 Hizack and the RMS-108 Marasai which will all become standard mobile suits for the Stardust brigade for most of their existence even (with modifications) being able to stand up to the newest mobile suits towards the end of the imperial civil war 10 years later.

Finding new recruits was the easiest. Many aces and important figures were already hand-picked by the military to become members and as the new recruits those who were able to pass a difficult testing process were given a two rank promotion as well as a double salary not to mention a good benefit package and much fame and glory at home. Recruiting offices were swamped with both recommendations and of course requests to join as many wish to take revenge on the bastard Titans. The rest of the 80s the Stardust brigade would become both loved and loathed by Ally and enemy respectively. Under the efficient leadership of Admiral delaz and mobile suit commander Anavel Gato the brigade was able to find and destroy several anti-imperial holdouts both on Earth and in space. And whilst loved by much of the general populace there were still opponents within the Imperial camp. Many earth and some lunar citizens, even those who joined the Stardust brigade suffered from discrimination and unjust actions such as searches on private property and seizure of goods. Due to their almost limitless nature they usually did not need a warrant for any such action. This made the group unpopular within the slowly growing liberal camp seeing the Stardust brigade becoming the very thing they swore to destroy as they already had conducted arrests and raids on political figures they saw as possible traitors from the smallest homeowners association to major figures in the imperial government. This left many threatened worrying that the Titans were going to take away the small government input they still had. This was what led many Imperial colony citizens to lose faith in the new Imperial government even led some to join several movements such as the moderate liberal party which wished to see the Empire become constitutional monarchy. The slightly more radical Republicans who wish to see the return of the Republic of Zeon and even militant groups such as the Anti-Empire Union Group who wished to establish a much freer society.

The Stardust brigade would play a crucial role in Gihren loyalist movements during the imperial civil war providing an iron shield bolstering the normal Imperial military. The brigade sent out many different strike groups to attack Mineva loyalist positions in the outer spheres. The Civil War also provided the final context for brigade to arrest anyone for any reason no matter how small. However it same autonomy and power may have been useful when fighting terrorists proved to be a double-edged blade in regards to the military as whilst they try to work with the Emperor individual commanders usually disregarded orders from standard Imperial military commanders even when many of those commanders are read to them. This led to several catastrophic losses of Imperial troops and some consider to be one of the main reasons for Giherens loss. Despite the death of Emperor Gihren at the 3rd Battle of A Baoa Gu, Anavel Gato still thought on proclaiming himself Lord Regent of the Empire and using his power orders the remaining fleet to reorganise around side 3 to make one valiant last stand in the name of the Emperor's son extending the wall for another few weeks. Admiral Delaz was killed when his flagship was destroyed when trying to defend side 3. Some rumours indicate that the Adml may have been killed by the clone Commander Full Frontal but these only remains rumours the Stardust brigade then fell under the command of Anavel Gato. And for the next couple of weeks attempted several counter-attacks at any fortresses and supply bases much of which failed. Then on the 12th November, 2 months after the Emperor Gihren's death, 2 weeks after the fall of side 3 and with the Royal heir and Kycilia nowhere to be found the Prime Minister ordered an immediate surrender to Mineva Zabi. Many remaining Gihren loyalist forces had surrendered already not seen any reason to fight but this led to most holdouts to give in as well. Commander Gato however with a large portion of the remaining fleet decided not to surrender and rendezvous with Full Frontal. By this point the stylus brigade was considered defunct. Whilst some factions would go on to form the Stardust brigade remnants most would join the sleeves.
