I really like him. Do ever do representations of the Goddess?

I've done very little carving. Green Man was my first attempt.
I haven't done any Goddess carving.

Maybe you should try a couple. I bet they would be just as awesome.

Arcimboldi's art is different by your work, but it remember me at this artist because is a mix of human and nature!

I used a standard set of carving tools and the wood is lime.

Did you made it yourself? Wow, I'm not good with 3D arts at all...yet. But carving seems to be really difficult and fun.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

aldwarke In reply to Triumfa [2011-07-10 19:49:06 +0000 UTC]

Yes, I carved it. It's not a copy of any other Green Man. I just made it up as I went along based on frequently found examples. It measures abour 35 by 28 cms.I suppose you know about the so called green man that appears in mediaeval stone and wood carvings in British churches. My new project is a Viking long boat figurehead.
Carving isn't all that difficult but it needs constant sharpening of tools and the right wood. This one is in lime wood which is the carver's choice for intricate designs. Nice of you to show an interest!
Harry

I actually love every kind of art and want to try almost all of it. Some are easy for me from the start, some needs some training, some are never really obtained

Gombrich, the great art historian said ' There really is no such thing as art. There are only artists.' I'm still thinking about what he said but I'm not quite sure I understand it.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Triumfa In reply to aldwarke [2011-07-12 18:43:04 +0000 UTC]

I understand it. In the beginning of my photography practice I convinced myself that "The photograpger makes art, not a camera", so Gombrich's expression seems to be the same, but more global.
I'm not this smart, I don't know history too good... nor modern life with it's popular people. But I still think, that the wisest things (incl. about art) were told be O. Wilde (just my opinion)
