Description Regrettably this Congressman is not fictional.

But his head is crammed with damaging nonsense. He is the man who advocates that American Head Teachers should keep an assault rifle in their offices.

As if America were not mad enough already.

And come to think of it...its that very notion...the right to bear arms (each and everyone of us here) that freed us from English rule. If all were armed people would think twice before jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire...in this case...line of fire. Guns don't kill people...people (sick fucks) do!

I don't mean to irritate you, but I speak from my experience as a teacher. It's true that some of the most difficult schools in London do have a uniformed presence, but no one is armed.

To turn a school into a fortress is to subvert the education agenda. I remain convinced that the congressman is dangerously deluded. Are teachers to be trained in the use of assault weaponry? It would be safer to post a trained professional in every school.

It seems to me that there's only a world we all share, Richard. Countries are no more than figments.

If only we could get the leaders of those illusions to agree. But I'll give ya that is a very very small world...one in which actions from one can have profound affects on all the others.

At least he's not silly enough to take his own life after being pranked by radio clowns in the guise of the Queen Mother!
If we are whacky we must take our cues from England.

That is not a n acceptable comment, since first it's off-topic and secondly its insensitive. The woman's death has a more complex background for sure. I don't suppose her family are describing her action as silly. Nor did she endanger anyone else.

And this is acceptable:
"As id America were not mad enough already."

Why, because you say so?

No my comment is not acceptable either, Richard.

Sure it is. In context. We are very mad that this person did this to such innocent children

One of the very few massacres in the UK was equally terrible. It also took place in school, in Scotland 1996. This is the Wiki link: [link] .

The law was changed to prohibit the private ownership of handguns. No comparable incident has happened since.

Perhaps so...but opinions, like yours and mine expressed here are like assholes...everyone has one and they all think theirs doesn't stink.

America is not of course, mad, but it's mindscape is more severely afflicted with an ideology which endangers rather than enhances civilisation. (I think of people like Adam's mother.)

As you realise that is much in American culture that I cherish. I was treated with the friendliest hospitality during my two all-too-brief visits. Oddly enough, my two closeat friend in London are both American ex-patriots.

And there in the nutshell is the issue that really should be the forefront of this global story...mental health care...not gun legislation. Considering the amount of guns in this country (I own 3 [no assault weaponry though]) the stats are quite low for acts of violence on this scale. Mental health care is what is desperately needed. So I guess we are "mad" after all

As for your two friends...good for them....no one here wanted them anyway...glad you took them in jk.
It's a free world...at least people think it is.

AlecBell In reply to Trippy4U [2012-12-19 10:45:39 +0000 UTC]

The mental health problem compounds the gun problem. Fragile souls are too easily possessed by the prevailing delusions of their community (as we in London discovered when four hitherto unknown young en attacked the London underground network which resulted n more than fifty random deaths (and nor an assault rifle in sight.)
