Description I cannot forget
Unable to remember,
I censor my dreams.

Tears leaking, eyes red.
waylaid by phantoms of pain,
buried, yet aching again.

those moments are worth it if we learn their lessons.

Oh, and I meant to say something about the form of the piece, too...

Last year, my Japanese teacher taught us about haiku and tanka in our Japanese literature class. She said that there was something beautiful in the 5-7-5 syllable pattern, but had trouble describing it. I think that she ended up by saying that it simply sounded pleasant to the ears. I generally think about that when I read haiku or other Japanese forms now. It certainly seems true. The 5-7-5 pattern does have some indescribable effect.

Though that effect may be a litle diluted in English?

Whenever I read your poems, I find myself in a different mood... They make me remember and feel, sometimes taking me by surprise, always leaving me in thought.

This poem certainly left me still.

Heart-rendingly beautiful, Alec.

Catching up on my reading.
A heartfelt piece.
It finally occurred to me to browse foreign styles of music on Magnatune (ALL HAIL MAGNATUNE) and I know I'm saying this in a funny place, but I've found the most wonderful neo-Indian music. xD

Well, I've logged in on a different desktop...but if you were to go to www.magnatune.com and enter Anup in the search engine, you would likely encounter the correct results.

*nods* Yes. But I still believe that everything can be overcome some way, somehow. It just takes time and the pursuit of healing.

I don't think many people escape.

MY mother was haunted for your years by the fact that she had allowed a baby of hers to adopted, at the insistence of her own mother. I dealt with that topic in my poem First Class Mail. [link]

'First Class Mail' - a heart rending piece. Much of my writing is a place of processing old wounds long neglected.

But we only work on the past to open up the future?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

rlkirkland In reply to AlecBell [2010-01-20 22:11:27 +0000 UTC]

Your question can be read in more than one way but I'll take a shot at this:

I've found that an 'undealt with' broken place in my past assured that I would have a broken response to every similiar situation.
One of my examples: Repeated physical and emotional abuse led me to a long held (mostly subconscious) conclusion that. Relationships would cause me pain. If I admitted or showed a weakness it would be exploited.

Recently I've learned to confront past hurts for what they were - past, learned how to develop trusted relationships where I could share my hurts, fears and weakness on a deep level, and it opened my life up to being able to share openly in places such as this where even if rejected I am no longer devestated by it.

"Only" the past? Absolutly not. When hurt emotionally now, I can accept it without lasting damage, immediatly work on the relational cause and have thereby found new levels of trust and understanding in all whom I come in contact with.

Very refreshing. Writing has played a huge role in this ongoing process.
Sorry if this turned out more than you were looking for.
