******************************************************************************************************************************

This is my new Ubuntu GNOME Theme. It's called SummerRebirth because it was started in early September, when the melancholy rising from the end of the summer and the desire to return backward for two or three month were strong. Now it's a little nonsense, but the name was already decided!

In the downloadable archive there are GTK&Metacity theme, Conky configuration files, CoverGloobus theme, AWN theme, and backgrounds for most popular resolutions.

Description & infos:
  • GTK Theme: SummerRebirth (mine): it uses a mix between equinox engine, pixmap engine and murrine engine. Some things are kept from other gtk themes, but I don't remember whic themes!

  • Window Manager Theme: SummerRebirth (mine): in the archive, there are three different metacity themes, but the best for me is this (that is a modification of another metacity theme that I don't remember)

  • Icon Theme: AwOken , made by me (released version 1.4! ). Folders are new s11 folders by [link] , that will be present in the next 1.5 version. For me, with these folders I reached perfection.

  • Covergloobus Theme: SummerRebirth (mine): it's present in the download archive

  • Wallpaper: original wallpaper is here [link] . In the downloadable archive there are modified backgrounds for 1366x768, 1024x600, 1280x1024, 1280x800, 1440x900, 1600x900 screen resolutions.

  • Dock at the right: avant-window-navigator

  • Notes: At the bottom there is a conky that shows essential informations (like new mails, or weather). In the top-right part of the desktop there are a little conky showing a bar that displays battery charging status, and CoverGloobus. In second and third desktop there are three conky popup, that popups to show other informations:
    * calendar: shows the calendar and uses a python script that prints for each month what has to be done reading from a text file located in my /home. It gives the possibility to insert notes in various colours, and for each month in the year;
    * cpu: it describes himself;
    * forecasts: it describes himself;

On your Checkcal script. What is it supposed to display? Yes I know the calendar. But is it supposed to display notes? or whatever things you have in your Evolution Calendar.

Cause right now I have added a my google calendar to Evolution Calendar. Anyways when I open the checkcal conky script nothing shows up from notes, my personal calendar or my google calendar.

Also your checkmem clickable conky script doesn't come up at all. nothing happens

alecive In reply to CBRoesch [2011-04-22 09:37:24 +0000 UTC]

Checkcal it's supposed to show notes from a file, but it's different from Evolution Calendar or Google Calendar (I'm not so great with programming to do so ).

Checkmem doesn't show anything probably because you haven't 4CPU as my computer has.

However, here [link] there's official thread related to this theme on ubuntuforums. Read what is written inside it, this will surely help you! And if not, write into it and I'll reply to you..

Thanks!

You're right, actually in this version there are a lot of things quite ugly (and that can be improved).. indeed I'm working on a newer (and I hope better) suite that avoids a lot of issues related to this.. it's almost done, but I have to refine some things before releasing it!

Unfortunately, I'm planning a skiing holiday, so I'll able to release it only in the new year! If you want, I can send you a preview.. maybe you can get a better inspiration from it rather than this..

alecive In reply to vmangano [2010-12-11 18:21:10 +0000 UTC]

potresti aiutarmi??

the jagged diagonal edges on the conky are painful to look at, but other than that it looks great

alecive In reply to Scnd101 [2010-12-03 07:42:56 +0000 UTC]

I agree with you.. but the effect that I wanted on the edge of the fake panels requires two defined pixels, and antialiasing could not be used because using it the edge effect is smoothed and so bad.. however, I'm developing a newer version based on this work, that avoids this issue!!

Actually i already had try of in in a boot from my USB but i still didn't install it, i was planning on installing it it's been a month, but i just can't find anywhere to back up my files on ( 80+ GB of files ) thinking on and external hard ddrive... Why i wanted to back up ? i read on ubuntu's documentation that it's better that i get my stuff backed up since there's a big chance that the harddrive get's corrupted ( i wanted to have a dual boot for windows and ubuntu )
And i noticed that ubuntu's Fast compared to transparent themes on XP ... hehe ( transparent themes in XP = a bunch of work and loads of 3rd party programs.
But one thing that sucks, Program compatibility :S i gathered a crap load of programs here and i'm pretty sure only 5 work with ubuntu ( linux )
And Your welcome dude

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

alecive In reply to blahstik [2010-11-30 18:30:09 +0000 UTC]

Two or three stuff to help you:

1. it's true, people always suggest to backup your data before installing ubuntu, but in my personal opinion it's only to be sure, I installed ubuntu on 13 different laptops, and I never assisted to a loss of data (even if every time I did a backup )

2. it's very very fast rather than windows (even the good old reliable xp!).. considering that a boot from usb makes the os slightly slower than a boot from HDD, you may expect that when you'll install directly ubuntu you'll assist to a further boost of performances..

3. with ubuntu I was able to use my old 5-years old laptop until couple of month ago.. it was always fast enough to my stuff, until I have to switch for university issues to another more powerful! But with windows this couldn't be possible, it makes the computer slower and slower over the time..

4. last (and most important) thing: lack of compatibility with a lot of useful softwares. You are right, but for this aspect you may do two different things: A. use a virtual machine to run windows programs over ubuntu B. (my favorite, since for me is always a good practice) keep a dual boot, and switch to win when needed

blahstik In reply to alecive [2010-12-02 07:06:59 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for the tips Bro, btw i tried booting ubuntu on a virtual machine on this XP but it just gives errors most of the times, and whem it works it's just too slow, so i'll go for backing up and installing ubuntu. I think i'll just try to find myself some external harddrive. ( The PC i'm using now, the one i'm trying to install ubuntu on is about 6 years old lol) ( but luckily i got 2 years laptop on the other hand)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

alecive In reply to blahstik [2010-12-02 08:32:48 +0000 UTC]

Obviously is slow, you're trying to use it in a virtual machine! Errors are normal, with a vm the situation is quite different than a normal situation. Try to use a live cd instead, is without any risk, and moreover you can see exactly what ubuntu will be when you'll install it (except for the fact that is slower than in reality)!

About Conky, How can I do it??!!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

alecive In reply to 2mjad [2010-11-29 19:45:50 +0000 UTC]

For icons, you have to run at least once the customization script (check the readme pdf inside the pack).

For gtk, you are right, it seems you don't have equinox engine (or pixmap, but I don't think so).. where you followed ewuinox engine installation instructions?

For conky, it's a bit tricky, but it's possible.. start with modifying all paths inside all files (inside the folder called "Conky") to match your system

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

2mjad In reply to alecive [2010-11-30 10:01:26 +0000 UTC]

I'll try the icon later an d make it for last thing.

For Equinox engine, I followed the installation instruction from the link you give it to me

About Conky, I've tow folders inside the Home called ".concky" and ".conkycolors".

If you can explain howwe can apply the conky we'll appreciate it.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

alecive In reply to 2mjad [2010-11-30 11:08:02 +0000 UTC]

No need to use those files.. firstly, put the whole folder in a directory that you prefer, and modify all files inside this folder correcting all paths that you see, to match the directory in wich you had put the folder..

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

2mjad [2010-11-29 01:11:18 +0000 UTC]

No actually
I opened "gnome-look.org" and search about the engines that you wrote it and I've found a lot of them!!
Could you please give me the links so I can install them??

I've extract the SummerRebirth.tar.gz archive, and moved the three folders inside the "SummerRebith" to ".themes" directory in my home.
I opend Appearance and select the theme, I got the same message !!
It's not solved with me!!

What should I do next??

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

alecive In reply to 2mjad [2010-11-26 12:00:04 +0000 UTC]

had you installed equinox/murrine/pixmap engine?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

2mjad [2010-11-25 22:39:55 +0000 UTC]

Very nice
when I install the GTK theme I got an error message in Appearance
"This theme will not look as intended because the required GTK+ theme 'SummerRebirth' is not installed."

What should I do??

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

alecive In reply to 2mjad [2010-11-26 08:03:07 +0000 UTC]

Have you correctly installed it? because inside the pack there is an archive called SummerRebirth.tar.gz, but you haven't to install it, because inside this archive there are three different themes. Maybe I might keep them in three different archives!

However, so what you have to do is extract the SummerRebirth.tar.gz archive, go in the "SummerRebirth" directory, and move those three folders in your ".themes" directory that is present in your home. If you don't know how to see it (because it's an hidden directory), just open your home and press "Ctrl+H"!!

Tell me if you solved.
