Description
One of the many speedpaintings and concepts for my graphic novel "Myre" to settle down ideas and get them ready for the comic! 3 hours painting. It's a good practise, too!This is one concept of many following which is pushing towards a major announcement and one I have planned since a whole year now!

"The dragon dwellings are well planned out and dug out, even by Human or Dwarven standards - they are built inside mountains of quartz and granite, making them imprevious to siege weaponry, and the only viable entrance ways into these dwellings are built high on top of cliffs and near mountain tops, making them inaccessible for most mortal races.Β
Inside these mountains, the dragons had excavated series of large caverns for habitation and storage of their hoards, with a massive central chamber at the center that serves as a dragon clan's living room and meeting hall for social activities. The walls are well polished by claws and reinforced by hardening through magic, and have holes leading to outside the mountains for ventilation. Spaces are delegated to dragons in the clan by needs and sizes.Β
These caverns are linked by a complex network of tunnels and course ways wide enough for an adult wyrm to crawl through.Β For defense, the tunnels would funnel attackers in narrow, predictable routes that could be easily defended by even a single dragon in the right position, and all the paths are rigged with traps, trick tunnels and spell-marked with magical runes of various kinds that would disable, maim or kill even rival dragons who triggered them; and these include explosive runes on support pillars, which, if all else fails, with a command roar, could be detonated and collapse entire sections of the mountain right on top of any enemy that had captured that area.
Dragons by themselves are difficult to handle enough. This, all in all, makes the idea of attacking a dragon dwelling to steal their loot next to impossible save for the most brave, cunning or insane of adventurers."

This is the sort of environment I imagine sentient dragons to live in--on a mountain side with easy 'launching' points along the face.Β But who are the stairs for?Β Do they live cooperatively with humans in your story?
