Thank you so much! All the detail was a bit overwhelming, but I think it was worth it (although it didn't really seem like it at the time )

Wow, I bet that was such a breeze to draw! (NOT.) -___-
Nonetheless, you did a fantastic job with the whole picture. The sequins and feathers must've taken ages! I hope your client enjoys the work you put into this...

Alene In reply to RoseDaughter [2012-10-27 16:01:55 +0000 UTC]

Haha, no, I was very tired of feathers and sequins! They took over two thirds of the time I spent on this portrait. My client certainly seemed to be happy, however, so that was good!

And I thought drawing rocks was hard! Feathers and sequins though, really do seem to top the cake.

The sparkly bracelets were rather evil too – although I had a high-res reference they were still all pixelated, so I had to fudge them as best I could.

Ooh, the whole idea of drawing glittery things seems positively evil to me now! What say you about glass?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Alene In reply to RoseDaughter [2012-10-28 16:38:50 +0000 UTC]

Glass isn't too bad providing there's something behind it, or something reflecting in it. In first year uni we had an assignment where we had to colour a sphere to look like it was made of glass .... all alone, on a white background. It was evil!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

RoseDaughter In reply to Alene [2012-10-30 18:16:46 +0000 UTC]

Eww... Draw a glass sphere on a white background... That's just positively evil. Since when do you have to draw glass by itself anyway?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Alene In reply to RoseDaughter [2012-10-30 18:58:12 +0000 UTC]

Exactly! Give me glass with something to actually reflect, and I'll engage to make it look like glass!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

RoseDaughter In reply to Alene [2012-10-31 04:59:45 +0000 UTC]

I, on my part, will fail miserably to make it look like reflected glass! Unless you give me a whole week...

Alene In reply to RoseDaughter [2012-10-31 08:28:30 +0000 UTC]

I failed too, it was terrible! I tried to turn it into green beach-rolled glass, but it really didn't work at all...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

RoseDaughter In reply to Alene [2012-11-07 21:44:08 +0000 UTC]

Oof. Making you draw glass seems terribly sadistic. I am hoping that I don't suffer quite so much from art classes.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Alene In reply to RoseDaughter [2012-11-08 07:00:44 +0000 UTC]

Well, this was an illustration class, so art classes might be less evil ^.^

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

RoseDaughter In reply to Alene [2012-11-09 17:55:53 +0000 UTC]

Hopefully. Then again, I might wind up drawing cubes using trigonometry and physics. A friend had to do that for her art class once. I'm not sure which is worse--drawing glass or drawing geometrically and trigonometrically correct cubes.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Alene In reply to RoseDaughter [2012-11-09 18:47:47 +0000 UTC]

Ewwwww! I did do technical drawing as part of my studies, but my class wasn't taught well, I think (the other class, with a different lecturer, all seemed to understand what was going on, my class.... not so much) so I'm still confused by perspective, no matter how hard I try to get it into my head. Add trigonometry into the mix and I would probably have run screaming for the hills!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

RoseDaughter In reply to Alene [2012-11-16 18:05:25 +0000 UTC]

Oh, dear. Well, perspective is no fun for anyone. I can't think of anyone who enjoys trying to make those wonky angles fit correctly. Unless you are a mathematical genius or an architect, of course!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Alene In reply to RoseDaughter [2012-11-21 18:52:06 +0000 UTC]

No, but it's unavoidable. I don't have the luxury of only drawing what I want, and therefore restricting backgrounds to natural ones rather than man-made ones with their horrible perspective troubles. So, if perspective is called for, I sigh and get one with it as best I can.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

RoseDaughter In reply to Alene [2012-11-22 18:35:10 +0000 UTC]

Unfortunately, ever since the Renaissance, people have become horribly picky about the angles of buildings and vanishing points! So unless you want to travel back approximately 600 years or so, and risk getting the bubonic plague and all sorts of nasty diseases, I think perspective will be here to stay.

Happy Thanksgiving, by the way! Gobble gobble and turkeys. XD Even though it's nearing summer where you're at. How's the weather?

I knoooow. I'm battling with a derelict car at the moment

And to you! Of course, we don't celebrate Thanksgiving, but our inboxes do get rather full of Black Friday sales! The weather here is messing with us, in the last four days the temperatures have been 26, 35, 33 and 26 (Celsius) o.O

RoseDaughter In reply to Alene [2012-12-07 04:47:30 +0000 UTC]

The weather has finally stopped messing around with us. It finally feels like winter. I don't think global warming is helping!

Just so you can feel really good about whatever weather you are having, they are currently forecasting 39 for Christmas Day (that's about 102F) We're.... not really looking forward to that....

RoseDaughter In reply to Alene [2012-12-23 20:07:43 +0000 UTC]

Ooh, that's absolutely horrid weather! Is it the weather equivalent of summer in Australia right now? Sending e-ice cubes and e-ice cream your way. Beat the heat and think about snow and pine trees!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Alene In reply to RoseDaughter [2012-12-24 04:19:33 +0000 UTC]

The weather in the southern hemisphere is the direct opposite of the northern hemisphere; you've just had the winter solstice, we've just had the summer solstice, you've just had the shortest day, we've just had the longest day. So yes, it's summer. It's been gloriously cool with most temperatures under 30ΒΊ and we were hoping that Christmas would be just as pleasant but the forecasts for this week, starting with Christmas Eve (today) are 34, 39, 38, 39, 38, 38, 37. >.< It always seems to do that around Christmas!

RoseDaughter In reply to Alene [2013-01-20 03:40:21 +0000 UTC]

So sorry for the late reply! It's been a particularly hectic few weeks, what with travel sans internet and jet lag.

o.O 39?!!!!! That is absolutely horrid weather for Christmas. We've had a spate of extremely cool weather for a few weeks or so, although it's been warming up again recently. Nights are still pretty chilly, though.

How were the holidays? Were they spent indulging in goodies?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Alene In reply to RoseDaughter [2013-01-20 05:40:26 +0000 UTC]

It ended up getting to 39.6, but we were at least in airconditioning! We've been having a lot of pretty hot weather lately, but unfortunately our nights are not chilly on those really hot days.

How was your travel? I hope you had a good time!
I've spent the holidays working (yes, I know >.<) around the general socialising that comes with the season. And this last week has been extremely hectic, as my great aunt died (at the grand age of nearly 94!) and we've had funerals and memorials to plan, and booklets to get printed.... today is her memorial service, which I would have gone to, but I'm sick. Life is fun. I did make it to her funeral, though, so I don't have to feel too bad.

RoseDaughter In reply to Alene [2013-01-21 20:36:12 +0000 UTC]

I'm sorry to hear about the death of your great aunt, and that you were sick for her memorial service. Please accept my condolences.

Otherwise, your holidays sound pretty...er...nice? I'm guessing that you would contradict me here. But then, what are holidays without a bit of rush?

Oh, thank you! She was in a lot of pain, but it's sad to think I don't have anyone of that generation left in my family.

Yes, they weren't too bad, all things considered, but I still have a huge list of things to do. >.<

Oh, this came out gorgeous! There's so much work and detail in everything - the face, the hair, the clothes. The feathers around the neckline especially are just amazing.

Thank you so much! I'm glad you think the feathers turned out so well, they were quite daunting; so many of them, and all so fluffy. A single feather is much less scary!
Thanks for the too!

Thank you! The sequins and feathers were very time consuming indeed. I think the sequins took me 7 hours. To make matters worse I had a samba dancer to do for another client (digitally) – so more sequins and feathers! However, it's always a mistake to fudge through clothing, so I persevered.
Thanks for the , I'm glad you like it!
