Description Enlil is one of the most powerful God I ever met in mythology.
Since the first time I read of him I felt his figure like somewhat beyond good or evil energy, someone above the other creatures as well as gods.
He has the knowledge, has the power and is not a father, he is the essence of the strenght - not brute neither mind but 'pure force' - he is someone far away from everything we know.
When I read of him into the Epic of Gilgamesh I got the same thoughts and it is hard to explain but in few words I only can say that 'Enlil is'.

PS: That's always my modest opinion forged by my personal imagination so I don't pretend to be historical or mythologically correct!

I'm still thinking I can do better with this work but I wanted to submit it!
Hope you like it!

I'm really enjoying the expression you put on Enlil's face. He seems so powerful and as you mentioned, very distant and hard to understand. Very supernatural and it looks like he's making a thunderstorm. What is that he's holding in his hand (the glowing stuff)? It seems like clouds and lighting.

Enlil is the god that sent the war on Earth so I wanted to represent his fury and in his hand there is a little growing thunder!
I worked a lot on his face, I wanted to make him human as well as god and there are some things on the hair and the hand that maybe I will fix when I will be more sure about!

I really thank you Ermek!
Always glad of your appreciation!

No problem!

When did you start becoming interested in the Mesopotamian myths, by the way? It's very interesting!

Thank you for this question! *_*
So... mhm I met Gilgamesh for the first time in 2007/2008, I was working on an artist's little presentation and the main theme of his art was the epic of Gilgamesh.
I was very excited by the artist's style but I really didn't know nothing about Gilgamesh and it was only in 2009 when I was preparing an exam of Greek History that I read something about the literature of Gilgamesh and the mesopotamian gods: they strongly fascinated me that time and those names were bound to myself till I finally bought a book that was the novel version of the epic of Gilgamesh in the 2012 and it was love.
But I've read the original piece only this current year and finally the faces of Gilgamesh, Ishtar, Enlil and other characters have appeared clearly on my mind!
So I've decided to draw them... I felt like it was necessary for myself!

Anyway I knew a musician, friend of mine, that called himself 'Enlil', I love mythology since when I was a child so every input is a new discover for me!
By the way I would like to read the Atra-Hasis too! >_<

Oh, I see! That's very interesting. I read a bit of Gilgamesh two years ago for an undergraduate course. I thought it was very interesting but didn't get too far into it. Definitely, I can see the fascination--there's a lot of material to work with and the stories have a lot of interesting themes and concepts that influenced a lot of other cultures.

Ah, I know very little about Atra-Hasis, but it seems to have discussed the Flood like in the Bible?

You are right, and I can say that the epic poem is a jewel, at least for what it means for me. ^^

Yes the Atra- Hasis in about the Flood but I need it to understand and know better the mesopotamian gods!

Gilgamesh is my favourite, I really loved and felt his feelings to the deep of my heart and mind.
I love Enlil too because he is so 'distant', but this more a mthological fascination! ^^

Oh wow, this is amazing! I think you really managed to show the deity's powerful, primal nature. The colours, the motion, it's all so stormy. Wonderful job dear! I'm really enjoying your Gilgamesh series!

I am very happy if you can feel all of them in a particular way!
It's important to me!
