The origins of te InterOceanic Federation date back to the uncertain days at the start of the Transhuman Revolution. The last years of the Long Crisis had seen the collapse of the reformed UN, the end of chinese hegemony and a complete reorganisation of the world order. In this period of fragmentation, the origin of the Federation was in the Interoceanic Treaty of Assistance and Cooperation of 2354 (TIAC by its acronym in spanish), one of the numerous attempts of creating a new international system. Since then, and despite its ups and downs, the Federation has become one of the main protagonist of the Human Sphere: playing a pivotal role in both the creation and the fall of the Solar Colonial Association, leading martian and venusian terraforming projects, pioneering in the creation of the first wormholes and the Nexus, leading the Solar Alliance during the Great Interstellar War...

Open and tolerant, he Federation is composed of different nations, from the old nation-states from Earth to the new colonies in the Periphery. Despite its diversity, this nations share its democratic and transhumanist character, specially on its social side (automatization, basic income, modification freedom, welfare state...).

The Federation has a decentralized nature, dealing mainly with international relations, space travel and colonization and defense, while providing general guidelines in other areas. The legislature branch is formed by the Union Senate, with representatives from the diferent member states, corporations, NGOs, and religious or citizens groups, and the Federal Parliament, which represents federal population as a hole. The High Federal Council is the executive branch, and leads the Federal Service.

Due to its highly decentralized organization, each nation in the Federation maintains its own military, but there is also a common military, the Combined Forces. Composed by the Combined Aerospace Force, the Combined Planetary Forces and the Special Operation Command, the Combined Forces are some of the biggest and better prepared and equiped military forces in the Human Sphere, with the ability of projecting its power anywhere in the known space.

The Federation is also an economic power. Smart material, electronics, starships and nanotechnology are important industries in the federal economy. It's a cultural power too, its cosmopolite nature having created a perfect ground for artistic and intellectual work. The Federation houses many important corporations, cooperatives, NGO and lobbying and political groups with a big amount of influence all over the sphere.
