Why would it be hell? If nothing else, you could leave if you didn't feel like looking at it anymore. Hell would be more like remaining conscious while locked inside it as it rots, no?

Nobody said you need to remain a skeleton - You could just replace the rest of the bones with a metal/polymer chassis, attach an aesthetically pleasing yet durable hull and keep developing.
