I haven't yet seen the movie, but I'm really, really looking forward to finding a way to watch it. I'm super excited! However, whether I've seen the movie or not, I CAN say that I don't strongly approve of the designs the producers picked for the girls. I'm a little disappointed in almost all of them, to be honest. You can tell how much I disliked the outfit of the girl based on how much I changed it!Furthermore, I was upset about the fact that ALL THE GIRLS WERE THE SAME HEIGHT WITH THE SAME BODY SHAPE. I understand that might make it easier to sell dolls but COME ON.
Anyway, I wanted to play dressup, so I did! Please comment c:

Rainbow Dash: Her overall attire is great! I would've like it if it was design to be a bit more tomboyish, yet still giving her the ability to feel comfortable and being able to do things like sports. Speaking of sports, I could see her in a kind of skater attire, complete with a skateboard of her own.
Rarity: Fashionista, thy name is Rarity! Her outfit's perfect, and I like where the direction you went with it! Whether it was a skirt or a pair of pants, Rarity would look great in it! I felt that she could've worn a greyish lavender shirt though, and one of those high waist or sack skirts, with the buttons.
Twilight Sparkle: Same, but at least it's not to poofy or anything. 
Pinkie Pie:
AppleJack: The western attire's great! The green color could've been more of an orange plaid, and her jean shorts as flare jeans, might've added a red neckerchief Β around her neck as well...But I liked this overall.
Fluttershy: The redesign outfit's great! So perfect for Fluttershy! My only suggestion is adding a type of vest or jacket over her shirt. Nothing much, but something in a cyanish color to match her ribbons on her skirt, or a different color.
Overall, I liked how you redesigned the outfits, and you've changed the boots and shoes completely! 2 thumbs up!

And your designs fix what was (for me) the worst character design choice in the movie: they put Rainbow Dash in a skirt! (with bike shorts underneath, but still....)

I wouldn't call it a skirt. She DID have a pair of shorts under it, so she technically wore a pair of skorts.

If they aren't connected, it's a skirt and shorts. Chances are they weren't connected, because they're different colors. And, generally, with skorts, the shorts are shorter than the skirt so they aren't visible. They're for modesty's sake, usually.

It kind of does matter. I've never seen a pair of skorts marketed as "look at these shorts that are much longer than the skirt and also a completely different color! Fool people into thinking you're wearing a pair of shorts and a skirt when really THEY'RE ATTACHED ALL ALONG!"

They're made to have the fashion quality of a skirt with the functionability of shorts.
Here's an example of skorts in which the shorts are purposefully made longer than the skirt

But notice how they're the same color? That's because they're made that way. They aren't made with a magenta skirt and racing stripe AND black spandex shorts sewn on underneath.
I googled both "two color skorts" and "mismatched skorts" and in thousands of results for both I could only find two images that vaguely resembled Dash's skirt/shorts combo.
One is marketed to women who do yoga but want to look flirty at the same time I guess I don't know much about yoga but the skirt would probably just get in the way i00.i.aliimg.com/wsphoto/v0/10β¦

Either way it comes across as inefficient and unnecessary. And you know the only kinds of girls who would willingly buy that? The kinds of girls who like to wear skirts. There is plenty of evidence that Dash is NOT one of those girls.

Which is a pair of skorts meant for sports, in which the shorts are shorter than the skirt, the same color, and the skirt is very tight-fitting for ease of movement. I don't know if you've ever played soccer in a skirt - I know I haven't - but my best guess is it ain't frickin' easy.
The point is that Dash isn't a skirt-wearin' gal. If you look at the lineup of all mane six, ALL SIX of them are wearing skirts. That isn't a coincidence, that's pushing the stereotype that girls should wear skirts. Despite the fact that AJ's family probably still owns an orchard considering she shows up with apple juice with her brother, she's still wearing a skirt. No tree-climbing, apple-picking, bull-riding cowgirl worth her salt is going to be wearing a jean miniskirt. The producers don't think about real-life application, they think about what will sell. And since little girls are pushed into skirts because of societal expectation, they put the mane six in skirts so the little girls will identify with them.
The point of THIS image is to challenge that.
