Description Ok, here is something *just* slightly different. This time I wanted to do a lineup, in the same style of the DCU lineups I've done , but with characters from some non-DC comics that I like. So, from left to right:

Hellboy: Everyone knows Hellboy, right? I tried to keep his proportions as close to the comics as possible, not human, and not like the animated movies.

Tank Girl: tried to give her a very wiry body type.

Atom Eve: Invincible is the only comic I've been reading religiously since I dropped reading the recent DC material. For some reason, it feels to me like Mark Grayson is the least interesting of all the series' characters, but all the cool secondary characters more than make up for it.

Dylan Dog:Hands down my favorite comic book character behind Superman. Sadly, I haven't read any recent Dylan Dog comics because the italian bookstores here in Venezuela that used to import these, don't anymore. (How unlucky that the same actor was chosen to portray my 2 favorite characters in lame movies).

Judge Dredd: Talking of lame movies... now, I don't know if Dredd is a character I like, or if he is even a character, but I like the visuals of Megacity-1 and the Judges. Also all the black humor and social commentary in those comics.

Hannah Dundee: I became a fan of the videogames (first the beat-em-up and later the PC game) before I ever read my first Xenozoic Tales comic. I recently bought the collected edition with all the main Xenozoic storyline. I wish Mark Schultz someday does complete the saga, besides I want to see his current art in sequential form.

Sidney Savage: I more a fan of the artist (J. Scott Campbell) than from the comic itself, but the original Danger Girl mini was lots of fun.

Ok, so most of these are not indie comics! But they are not Marvel or DC! hehehe

While I like all of Invincible's characters and the character himself, I have to admit that you're right. The supporting characters seem to be more interesting that our title hero, like Allen.

Allen is awesome! But I could say that about almost everyone: Robot, Immortal, Cecil, Monster Girl, pretty much every villain: Angstrom Levy, the viltrumites, and a long, long, etc.

I feel like I should like Mark more, since he is somewhat like a cross between Spider-Man and Superman, but I'm indifferent towards him.

Isn't that true for about 85% of female characters in comics? But hey, look at Hellboy, he's showing some skin too.

Hi! Good job! I like your Dylan!!
I'm Italian, and I am a true fan of Dylan Dog!
The movie? Is a blasphemy!!!! Orrible!!! It is ABSOLUTELY NOT a Dylan Dog Movie!!! It is a movie, with a guy who say to call himself Dylan Dog, BUT he is NOT him! He CAN'T BE him! Where is Groucho? When ever Dylan was a fanatic of weapons? He is a PACIFIST, Giuda ballerino!!!!
Sorry, I got myself get carried away... Anyway, nice drawing! I like it!!!
Waiting for more!!

Io potrei scrivere in italiano, ma la verita e che non e mia lingua. Capisco bennisimo quando leggo e lo sento parlare, lo parlo piu o meno, ma scriverlo e molto piu difficile, senza practica.

I haven't seen the movie, and I don't want to watch it! I saw the trailer, and that was enough to tell the movie was nothing like the comic. I always thought that a Dylan Dog movie, if done right, could have been awesome, the comic is/was so cinematic, and easy to adapt to the film medium. I understand how you feel about the movie, that's how I normally feel about superhero comics (Dylan Dog movie too).

I know how you feel about Italian language.... I feel the same thing about english!!! (Thank you, Google translater!! You saved me so many times!!)

Yea, I don't know why, but in the latest years, in Hollywood ther is this mania of making superhero movies... but with the stories totaly upside down!!! One for all... Superman! Argh!!!! And some weeks ago, I went to see Thor... Bad movie, bad actors, bad story... WRONG story... I have to say more??? No, I don't think so....
I didn't see the movie... Me too, I saw the trailer, and later I was too disgusted to go to see it!!!! Again, a Dylan with a mania for weapons, and without Groucho.... is NOT Dylan Dog!!
If you don't know, there was a Dylan Dog Movie some years ago (1994, if I'm not wrong), or better, it was about a Tiziano Sclavi's novella, Dellamorte Dellamore, whose main character appears in some Dylan Dog's specials. It was made with Ruper Everett, the actor that inspired the face of ours nightmare investigator. It was not a great film, but it was very faithful to the original.

Ciao Ciao!!

I could have passed the no Groucho thing, because well, they probably were not going to get the rights to use Groucho Marx in the movie. What really irked me was changing the setting from London to New Orleans, and switching Dylan from Englishman to American. London is way more atmospheric.
I've seen Dellamore Dellamorte it was alright, but nothing great.

So you say Dylan Dog is your favorite character next to Superman? How did you feel about Superman playing Dylan Dog?

Didn't get to see it, but Bradon Routh is always cool in any role he gets. Your Hellboy is awesome btw.

alexmax In reply to C-Abdulio [2011-08-14 15:55:38 +0000 UTC]

I'll be honest, I have never been able to sit through "Superman Returns", I was hoping for a more contemporary take on the comic (Corporate Luthor, Clark the real persona, Ma and Pa Kent alive, maybe some villain like Parasite or Metallo), and what we got was a sequel to a movie that came out before I was even born. Maybe the next one: "Man of Steel" will be better, but I doubt it.

As for the Dylan Dog movie, hmmm, that's not a Dylan Dog movie. It should have been a true horror movie, equal parts splatter and psychological horror. It should have had the vibe of 70's or early 80's horror movies (Argento, Fulci, Cronenberg, The Exorcist, Texas Chainsaw Massacre) instead they seem to have gone for a Buffy-like vibe.

Nothing against Routh. From interviews I've read, he sounds like a decent guy that got the wrong end of the deal by being involved with Superman Returns.

C-Abdulio In reply to alexmax [2011-08-15 04:30:18 +0000 UTC]

Same here actually. It's unfortunate that the Man of Steel's theatrical return after so many years was a retread of previous material by a Donner fanboy instead of a proper reboot. It's even lamer that DC keeps wanting to present Supes in a spectacular fashion asa hero from a bygone age, when two shows (Lois and Clark and Superman:The Animated Series) did a good job highlighting him as a contemperory hero. Maybe MoS will prove me wrong, but the only thing that'll be different this time will be WB using Zak Pen to up the action for those who complains Supes don't do jack, and Nolan to make it grim-dark so he can be like Batman

alexmax In reply to C-Abdulio [2011-08-16 19:52:17 +0000 UTC]

Like you, I hope Man of Steel proves me wrong, but the combination of Nolan, Snyder and Goyer doesn't bode well. These people who have publicly stated in the past they were not fans of "bright, colored, flying heroes" while promoting their own superhero movies like Batman Begins, Watchmen or Blade 3.

They already released a pic of the new Superman costume, and while better than the one from Superman Returns, it has plenty of problems too.

I'm tired of studios hiring people that say "I've never read a comic book" to make comic book movies. I can't imagine directors adapting a bestselling novel to film saying: "yeah, I never read the novel, but I'm making the movie anyway".

I think I will do another "indies" series at some point. Even though I know who Grendel and Dawn are (from a visual standpoint), I've never read any of those comics. I'll do some research if I am to include, at least 1 of them, in a lineup

Ah yes, the runner ups. The heroes you see around, but keep a lower profile. Good to see they get their own spread.

You design on Hellboy is particularly good.

¿y quién no? jajaja.

Y no, yo no lo he intentado.

the-sketchman In reply to alexmax [2011-01-08 02:03:32 +0000 UTC]
