While taking a short break to eat and rest on the forest lake’s bank during their journey to the Anatolia’s Tenth monastery, Ashes noticed a peculiar occurrence. "Gábor, look, isn't this... weird?" The stallion said as he walked closer to a pile of ribbons, lying on the bank of the forest's lake.

"A bunch of ribbons on the ground in the middle of a vast forest? I have seen a lot on my previous journeys, but this is a new one indeed."

"Well, we're not exactly in the middle of it anymore," said Gábor as he approached Ashes, curious to see the stallion's find, and leaned over to take a better look at the ribbons before continuing, "rather, we're finally close to the forest's edge. Soon, we should see the meadow that my brothers' are keeping tree-free, cutting the new seedlings down. And that means we should arrive at the monastery - and home - within today."

Gábor then straightened up and looked around the place. "I am not sure, but I think we may be in the area where Damnée lives."

"Damnée?" Ashes asked.

"Our monastery's mare's friend is a forest dweller, or, a Woodlander as they call themselves. Her name's Damnée, and she is a water creature who originally lived in one of those lakes - and she still does, even though nowadays she spends most of her time at the monastery's stables, keeping Amber - the mare - a company."

This caught Ashes's interest, but he decided to clarify the situation at hand first. Therefore, he inquired further. "And what could she have in common with these ribbons?"

"Amber loves ribbons and other such decorative things. She has probably gifted them to Damnée, and since they wouldn't last long underwater, she might have simply... deposited them here. I am not sure to what extent the forest faes bother themselves with such trinkets. I always had the feeling that they consider our 'Outlander' customs to be weird at least." Gábor chuckled, and added, "Anyway, I wouldn't recommend you to touch them, she may sense you out of them or whatever, and get angry. She gives me the creeps sometimes."

Ashes looked at him sideways, "Young monk, I am an Adventurer. I know better than to touch suspicious objects."

After their short exchange, they returned to the backpacks, packed up all their belongings and left this place behind them. Gábor continued on explaining the monastery's daily life to Ashes, trying to prepare him for the new experience.

Author's note: Rejoice! Gábor's and Ashes's first journey is close to its end. After meeting each other by coincidence at the outskirts of the Great Desert somewhere in the far south-west corner of the realm, passing through the Central lands, crossing the flood-stricken valley beneath the Blue Mountains, and travelling the ancient paths throughout the Black Forest, their 4 months long travel is finally nearing its end.

From getting to know each other thanks to their shared direction of travel, to becoming good friends; from accompanying each other on their journey to Ashes's decision to settle down at the monastery, they forewent a great distance not just in terms of miles walked.
