Description My Chell figurine mockup from Shapeways arrived!
Hate to say it, but with such a rough surface, I just don't know about making several as backer rewards.

Computer. It's a 3D print of the original test pose I did with the rig.

is she your character? Idk I haven't really been around.

alexzemke In reply to Spadespeed [2012-08-06 23:33:46 +0000 UTC]

She's a 3D print of my short film's first version of Chell from Portal 2. The new version, still being rigged, is a bit different.

luca0483 [2012-08-04 13:21:11 +0000 UTC]

how big is it?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

alexzemke In reply to luca0483 [2012-08-04 16:14:34 +0000 UTC]

About 1/7 scale, based on a 5'10" height for Chell. If Chell's more like 5'7", a bit closer to 1/6.

luca0483 In reply to alexzemke [2012-08-04 19:21:20 +0000 UTC]

"how big is it" as in, how big is the actual model in inches, not how big is the scale of the model.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

alexzemke In reply to luca0483 [2012-08-05 01:39:02 +0000 UTC]

5 1/8 inches from the floor to the upraised hand.
7 3/8 inches from her right knee to her left foot (both grounded).
6 9/16 inches from the tip of her right middle finger (grounded) to to back of her right heel (raised).

According to the site that printed her: 6.3" W, 5.1" D, 7.2" H (couldn't say precisely what direction they're measuring)
Metric from the same site: 16cm W, 12.98cm D, 18.34cm H
Print Volume: 90.62 cubic cm

That's all I can come up with for now, except to say that I can just fit her on my open hand. Her grounded hand sits on my outstretched thumb tip; her rear foot barely rests on the opposite edge of my palm; her knee stops just short of my wrist, and her left toe touches the tip of my middle finger.

alexzemke In reply to baku-face [2012-05-25 16:06:35 +0000 UTC]

Well this was a rough mockup in their default material, so with shipping it ran about $135. The smoother, more detailed materials run a lot higher.

What is an .obj? What software does it go with?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

alexzemke In reply to superskeetospro [2012-06-25 03:26:13 +0000 UTC]

Short for Object, and it's kind of a non-specific file type that's often used to move things between software packages.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

alexzemke In reply to superskeetospro [2012-05-19 10:31:29 +0000 UTC]

With shipping it was 135, but they also print in materials that come out smoother and in higher detail, for more money per cubic cm.
