Description The pink one is my first pattern, the orange one is my second!

I honestly can't believe I have to say this, but please do not say the pink one is better. It is quite rude and implies that my improvements are wasted. The orange one still needs many changes, which I have already noted.

Please stop critiquing these, it's seriously pointless because by the time the first person commented, I had already made the third pattern, and now I am on my fourth. Just because I posted test WIPs does not immediately mean it is open for critique! I don't enable critiques for a reason, please respect that.

Wow what a jump in quality here!! Not too bad for my very first two patterns! Well the pink one looks absolutely horrid, but the orange one's alright!

So before I started tracing the basic mare pattern onto the fabric for Derpy, Maud, Pinkamena, Fluttershy, and Applejack, I decided the pattern wasn't entirely up to my standards anymore. Nothing at all against valleyviolet , her patterns are all amazing and I recommend them to everyone! There's just a few things I personally have different tastes for.

For one, I absolutely hate seeing darts or stitching lines across the center of the body, I like when the sides are all one piece. And also, I noticed a lot of plush makers having the ponies' thighs/butt be separated, and I really prefer that look to the flat butt (like on the pink one). I have no idea how people do it, so I literally guessed. XD

The second pattern came out pretty freaking close to what I imagined, and I am so proud!

There's just a few changes I already see I need to do for a third draft:
- The legs could stand to be a bit longer
- The butt cheeks need to go slightly deeper into the body
- The belly needs to be thicker and more rounded
- The hock I would like to cut into the leg just a teeny bit more
- I may make the chest/neck piece extend all the way up the front, like on the first one

So yeah, I think I might try one more test body pattern, and of course the heads, and if I'm satisfied, I'll start on making some real plushies!

I might also finish these two, and the third one, and sell them really cheap, like start them on eBay for like $30-$50 or something... Just to get them out of here and to earn a little money back from my time/materials. I'm almost out of stuffing and only have like $20 to my name!

These are made of Fleece (yuck!), and the next one will be too, since it's cheap and I had a bunch laying around. Of course it exaggerates any imperfections and just looks and feels gross, in my opinion. xD;;

Thanks, everyone, for looking! Enjoy!

The orange is sure better but there only one thing that i actually spotted... it seem like... the orange back is like... flat, and doesn't seem to have like... a tiny curve or something like the pink one, every pony have at least a bit of a curve in the back, except for that i'd say that your pattern look great ^^ (I didn't named all the other thing since you allready writed them in your description, so i didn't felt like i needed to do so :3 )

Thanks, but it really doesn't matter since I'm on my fourth test by now anyways. And also the flat pattern did have a curve, I don't know if it didn't show up because of my hand-sewing or because it needed to be exaggerated. Though, since you said you read my comments, it does also say that I do not want critiques from anyone. Just because this is a test people seem to think it's okay to critique everything, but that isn't why I posted this. I suppose I just shouldn't post any more tests then, since that is people's first thoughts?

I guess everyone does that to try to help ;--; But seriously, your test is way more better than the last... i say that cause i've seen alot of plush... and your actually doing alot greater plush then alot of them and yeah, i kind of readed them, not all of it cause i'm lazy and it... too much long (No offense, if you like it this way, it your way ) it actually one of the first time i comment on one of your thing so... kind of didn't knew you didn't wanted... ''Critiques'' Even if they can be helpful sometime to see what other thing if they do not exagerated (No idea if it spelled ''Exagerated'' i'm not English ;--; )

Thank you. Please though, next time read my descriptions before commenting. I do type them for a reason, and most of the comments I get from people with misunderstandings are because they didn't read my descriptions. I understand that critiques are supposed to be helpful, but nobody does it correctly, I've asked politely for people not to, and everyone has different tastes, skills, and views on art. So it becomes rather pointless when I've already got a vision and people are telling me what to do with it to make it "better" when, in my mind, it's making it worse.

Told this way... i understand a bit more now ;--; i guess that those who WANT critique only want them cause they hope everyone love their thing they made, but those like you, allready know what their work are worth without even have to asking other, about it ^^ i guess it better this way just hope i wasn't... annoying... XD

I agree on the fact that the orange is better.

At first look, it can be a little hard to see, but the orange has few things to be improved on - simply (as listed) making its stomach a little larger, making the hindleg a little thinner, maybe making the neck a little thicker? Whilst the pink one has various problems (please do not take offence as I list the ones most obvious to me, I figured you wouldn't since you yourself said it looked horrid) - its body is too short, the legs are a tad too long in comparison, it's neck is too thick and should curve inwards a little more, its hindlegs aren't quite thick enough, sit inwards, and they should have a bit more of a curve.

But without having to change much, you could make the second design into the Luna model.

The changes for my next pattern were already listed in the artist's comment, which I've already made. And though you're mostly right, it seems rather pointless to state the flaws with the already obsolete pattern. o.0

I would like to make my own Luna/Cadence pattern eventually, too, but it wouldn't look anything like these ones. xD

i actually like the first one better. The second one, although has better attached limbs, is really REALLY skinny. it looks like pony legs attached to a gummy worm

It says right in the description what needs to be adjusted for the next test, and making the body thicker is listed there. I would rather people not say they like the first draft better, it's a tad bit insulting to say an artist's older work is better than newer work.

well sorry, but i didn't see where it said that. and sorry that saying older work is better than newer work, but sometimes you have to accept opinions.

It looks terrible, its back it too tall, and the whole thing is way too stiff. xD There's still much to be done, but the pink one is just awful.

It looks like the ones from Build-a-Bear! :>
Then again those ones are made stiff so they can stand up. :'o
Gosh I wish I could make plushies ;-;

I got one of those Build-a-Bear ones, before I even started making plushies. And now looking at it, those ones are pretty bad. XD I was going to buy more, but then I changed my mind once I started making my own! And by stiff, I didn't mean rigid, I meant it doesn't look fluid/dynamic. The curvier legs makes it look more natural, and makes the pose look less awkward and forced. C:

It's a lot of fun, and to see your finished product after all the work is definitely satisfying! <3 I got started by using some free patterns I saw on here and this cheap Fleece, then I moved on to Minky and bought some nicer patterns, which is definitely worth it.

They're not show accurate, but they're still adorable! <3
I love the way they make the ears especially, for some reason.
Well Build-a-Bear closed down in the entire province here, so I only got the Rainbow Dash one...
Ohh, I completely misunderstood then! I agree, the pink one's pose looks way forced.

If I knew how to sew, then I would consider trying it, I would make plushies for everyone!
Using cheap material of course and keeping the good fabric for myself 'eue

I got the Princess Twilight, though I couldn't afford any of the clothes, so I just got the pony. ;u;

Learning to hand-sew is tedious and time consuming, but the techniques are actually super easy! And of course a sewing machine, though it looks intimidating when you first get it, it's actually easier than hand-sewing. xD You can probably find some good tutorials around here to get you started! And if you need any help you can always ask me. <3

Ah, I bought the Rainbow Dash with her gala dress and a sound box, which in total cost me like $100 x__x

I've only used a sewing machine like twice for my home economics class, and it was terrifying! I kept getting the fabric stuck in between the threads, and I've never understood why there are two threads. :s I'll look around and see what I can find, and thank you!

I bought Twilight with a coupon, because I only had $20 to spend. ;__;

It was definitely scary at first! It takes a little while to get used to the machine with all of its motions and noises. And I was confused about the two threads at first, too. XD I never had one of those classes in any of the schools I went to, I only taught myself how to use it recently. I bought mine last summer, and kind of was learning how to use it, but only REALLY started learning again the past three months or so!

No problem~!

Art supplies will be the death of you!

My problem with the machine is I either press the pedal too lightly or too much,
resulting in an angry Lily (me) and some scrapped fabric.
I've only sewed with fabrics once, the rest I did with paper and no threads for practice. c:
I may have an old sewing machine that my dad used to use... I don't know if it still works.
I'll hope for the best!

AlicornParty In reply to SimpleCalamity [2014-11-11 01:46:59 +0000 UTC]

Yeah that happens when you're first getting used to it the pedal. XD I used to keep my machine at it's slowest setting because I would press so hard at first, being focused more on my hands than the pedal. But now I keep it on a much faster speed, since I'm better at controlling everything at once now. C:

Newer ones are certainly easier to use, and have become much cheaper. <3 You can get a simple cheap one for like around $100 nowadays! Mine was $300, and it's been really good to me so far. <33 I have the Singer Superb 2010 model, and it's seriously awesome for beginners.

Good luck!

SimpleCalamity In reply to AlicornParty [2014-11-19 03:05:10 +0000 UTC]

I would always go too slow and being impatient with the machine, I would press harder,
only to have the machine go so fast that I had no time to sew the fabric.
Other than controlling the machine, I think I have the basics of plushie-making
understood in my head, now to see if I can actually do it.

That's actually more expensive than I thought it would be, I don't think there's
much "mechanic" in a sewing machine... Oh well, I guess it's because they
probably last a long time, or it's easy to make profitable things with!
I'll try to dig up my dad's old sewing machine, and if not, then I'll ask my
home economics teacher for advice on sewing. c:

Thank you! ;w;
