This is the drawing where the heart of a person is weighed against a special feather (forgive me, but I don't remember it good off the top of my head) if you heart was lighter, the person was then allowed to go and live in the afterlife. If the heart was heavier, it would be eaten by a beast and the person would not be allowed to go into the afterlife. The god of learning served as a scribe for these particular meetings. And Anubis, the king of the dead, came to supervise as well as the other gods such as Ra, the sun god.

unfortunately, those in Egypt don't respect the pyramids anymore. they pee on them and everything! AND the Nile is so polluted you will even find carcasses of cows in there just floating along! Visit My Beliefs: Ancient Egyptian Gods and Goddesses, add to faves and please leave a comment about this.

Wow, I had no Idea! Are you sure about this? I know some people from Egypt and they all love their heritage... Of course in every country there are brainless idiots like those.

I love Egypt and I'm vey proud to be an Egyptian but you got to know that the majority of the people living here don't know what the hell their doing and I mean the Nile is literally green from up close...but egypt is finally beginning to rise again and hopefully we'll get back on our feet...but still no doubt if you do come visite you won't regret it just stay away from any one that may look poorly dressed and ignore the camel rides other rhan that there are tons of great places to visit including the pyramids.

In fact, the Egyptians who work near the tourist sites, such as those who rent horses and camels near the pyramids are not educated
And I do not mean translators and tour guides of course
So maybe you find things like this
by the way i'mΒ Egyptian from Alexandria city ^^

Ah, we're actually studying this in my History of Art class! This would be from one of the books of the dead, and it's one of the (I believe) pharaoh's journey through judgement in the afterlife. There, Anubis is weighing his heart (the jar on the left) with a feather (on the right) to see if it's as pure (or purer) than a feather. If not, the alligator/lion/hippo pictured gets to eat his ka (soul). :K Fun stuff.

Did you take this in the Valley of the Kings? Its the only place I can think of other than on scrolls that would have this particular image. Also, if it /is/ from the Valley, how the hell did you get a camera in?

This is an amazing image!
Ancient Egypt is a fascinating culture. I've always been intrigued by it.
I would love nothing more than to go to Egypt and tour the ruins and immerse myself in the history. I've read several books, articles, and websites, but there's nothing quite like being there in person; engaging the physical senses with the ancient surroundings.
Fantastic image! Thank you for sharing!

As far as Egyptian Gods go, I'm partial to Maat, myself (although that may be because those feathers are such FUN to draw).

the languages are actually a real pain in the a**, currently i'm learning english (of course), german, french, latin, ancient greek, arabic, egyptian hieroglyphs, and recently i had to deal with coptic, so as you see, being a beginner archaeologist isn't that easy...
