Description This Victorian-style house -which is perhaps 100 years old- used to be the president's home at Maryville College (Maryville, TN.) It now has been converted to offices. I find it somehow sad that presidents of universities and campuses in the U.S. no longer live within the campus precincts in the stately old buildings, perhaps because I believe it reflects a trend toward viewing the leading campus job as a business opportunity and creates a gulf between the one in that position and the students.

Great photo Alicia.

I've definitely seen that trend as well. College and Universities are largely being run by ex-corporation heads who tend to see it as just another job. In five years they're off to another prospect.

Or less. UT/Knoxville is a prime example of money grabbing business ceos who milk the universities for what they're worth and then move on when they can't get any more.

I always love your architecture shots, it's as if you make the buildings seem more monumental than they already are. This building is another great example, the whole place seems so very massive (which I'm sure it is) and you captured that feel wonderfully. I also really love the interesting surfaces on the house, how they're all different - stone, woodwork, shingles, etc. Great shot!

Well, this building is certainly a mixture of all kinds of architectural movements in the U.S.
