Fresh out of business school, we decided to start out together in the same company. Luckily for us, my aunt, who was the director of a large department store on Fifth Avenue in New York, was able to put us in touch with her. During a difficult meeting to launch a Christmas campaign, I presented the idea of basing it on a 1950s/60s revival inspired by the Mad Men series, and my friend had even drawn up a concept with two young girls carrying a gift in the store's cosmetics department, but my aunt retorted that she hadn't gone to all that effort to modernize the store to go back in time. I must have been a little overzealous in defending our concept, because my aunt got really angry and said, "Okay, but the girls in the drawing will be you! And then I had the unfortunate idea of retorting, "But my aunt! "and she replied, "Very well, just so you know, I'm the boss here, and what's more, you'll be the store's masqueraders and hostesses all Christmas long in your new 50s Desperate Housewives outfits!
