Greetings earth creature. Are you still working properly?

Stan is on all fours on the floor still trying to get his breath back and he replies automatically, not yet lucid enough to wonder where he is or who is speaking to him.

STAN
(half-coughing, half-speaking)
Huh?... It’s... yeah...

WILLFALL
I picked up your outgoing signals. I decided that you could still be of some use so it wasn’t worth letting you get cooked out there.

By now Stan has recovered enough to look around him before responding.
The scene through his eyes: The robot Willfall, the crowd of flying missiles, the great hangar, his spacecraft ablaze behind him.

STAN
Where am I?

WILLFALL
We are in the Space Circus, the biggest and best circus in the universe. You are here because there’s a job for you.

STAN
A circus?

WILLFALL
(adopting an exaggerated publicity announcer tone of voice)
That’s right: the Space circus travels through space to astound crowds everywhere with our amazing show!

Stan stares at Willfall. He appears to be glued to the spot and his expression is one of total disbelief.

WILLFALL
I realize that you’re finding it hard to take it all in Stan. That’s perfectly normal in species which are bereft of any sort of reportorial powers... Come on, let’s get going!
