Maz is quite possibly my favorite bred horse I own, besides Siren ; I have been a big fan of his dam and sire for quiiite a while, so hopefully someday he can make them proud.

BASICS:

Registered Name: SCS Masiosare
  Meaning: Same root as the word "massacre." It can also mean "strange enemy," but in Maz's case, he was named after a character from a webcomic. If you know which one, I would love to hear it.

Build: A beautiful example of his breeding, Maz conforms nearly ideally to the breed standard. His head is noble, with wide nostrils and a slightly concave slope; his neck slopes down to a well-muscled shoulder, well-sprung ribs, and long, clean legs that are a touch big-boned, particularly in the hind end. His coat is on the thicker side, particularly during the winter months, and his hooves are hardy and easily kept. Overall, a fine specimen.

PERSONALITY:

OVERVIEW: BRAVE - INTELLIGENT - STRONG

Basic: Well... there's one thing that must be said first: Masiosare is almost completely blind. No one is quite sure how it happened; his surrogate dam foaled early, and no one was present to know for sure if he was born this way or injured quickly after birth. He seems to be able to distinguish the difference between light and dark, and SCS's vets believe that he may have limited color vision, but it is impossible to tell exactly what his capabilities are. Despite his major flaw, Maz is a very brave young horse, and tough as nails, to boot. He's very curious and willing to do new things, but is also very dependent on his handler having good communication, especially via verbal commands, which he responds best to. Though his biological dam did not raise him, he seems to have inherited her opinion of work: some days are better than others. On his better days, he's a perfect gentleman who will do whatever is asked of him, but on his off days, he grows an opinion of his own, and will make life miserable for his handlers, quickly becoming frustrated and overwhelmed. Keeping in mind that this may stem from the fact that he's not stimulated enough, SCS has put significant time into keeping his mental development on track, and due to this vigilant effort, Maz lacks no intelligence or quick-footed response time to anything thrown his way. He's very well-rounded, and Cyus aims to continue his education as far as he can take it.

Quirks:
His hearing and sense of smell are impeccable, and he'll easily follow vocal and touch cues, but Maz struggles to interpret much of his visual input.
Perhaps it's because of this, but he's very vocal. Little grunts and huffs may be heard when working with him, and he's always been easy to tease into a game that Mari calls Songbird: you hum something, and he'll whinny or make a strange grumbling noise back, almost as if he understands. Maybe he's a bit too intelligent for his own good....
Like his father, he's never met a horse he couldn't befriend. Like his mother, he's more selective with the people. He'll gladly interact and behave with strangers, but he can be somewhat flighty until he's adjusted to a new person.
Obeys voice commands most of all. Commands going by touch and feel are okay, too, but can startle him, so verbal are preferred. Responds best to commands given in a friendly, but firm, voice. He's a team horse, and he won't be answering any rude demands.

History: When two of Cyus's favorite horses became available for breeding, he jumped at the chance to cross what he considered the pair of a lifetime. Marlo , the planned dam, was still deep in a show season, so it was decided that a mare from the Association - Tinkerbell - would carry the foal to term. She was large enough to handle a tall foal if need be, and so she was shipped across the world and spoiled rotten for the duration of the pregnancy. To the stables' surprise, she foaled several weeks early, in the middle of a massive, unseasonable storm, when SCS was practically a ghost property. When one of the stablehands chanced the floods and went to check on all of the horses the next morning, to their surprise, they found a freshly dropped colt waiting for them. A all was put through to Cyus, who rushed over, bringing a vet with him to get both mare and foal checked over. He was built beautifully, got along wonderfully with Tinkerbell, and readily stood and pranced around for them. The only problem... was that the foal couldn't see. With no one able to account for the few hours between birth and discovery, there was no way to know what really happened, but Cyus agreed to keep him regardless, entranced by his friendly and cooperative nature, as well as the spell of new life. Thankfully, he grew like a weed, stepping up to fill the great hoofsteps his family left him. While he most closely resembles his grandfather's (Byrock 's) build, he definitely has his mother's (Marlo 's) famed toughness and raw skill, even if sometimes it seems he was tempered with a little too much fire.
