I tried a more painterly style for this piece and I must say, I absolutely loved working on this drawing. Tho that brush fence was not cooperating haha. HOPE YOU LIKE IT! <3

"-And you know, then he-"
The sudden sound of the door to his bedroom being yanked open made Ace instinctively turn around and huff into the entruders general direction.

"Are you skyping with Yuliya?" Sergio didn't even bother to close the door but instead walked towards Ace and the laptop that was sitting on the desk in front of him.

"Did no one ever teach you to knock? Who knows what I could've been up to." Ace looked up as Sergio came to a stop next to him, his eyes fixed on the screen where a pixelated image of Yuliya greeted him with a half wave.

"Yeah, yeah, whatever. That would've sounded different-"; he said and made the mistake to look at Ace for just a split second, seeing the smirk on his lips. "For sure you would know."
He turned his attention back to the screen and leaned in closer, pushing Ace out of the frame almost completely.

"Hey, sorry to interrupt but I was phoning my brother yesterday and he just so managed to come across an advertisement for a show that could interest you."

"A show in- Spain? I don't know."

"Just see it as some sort of holidays then? I told him I couldn't make it but that I will ask a friend if she's interested. He offered to give you a free tour too."

Yuliya let out a soft laughter before she leaned back in her chair her, fingers running through the blonde mess of hair on her head that had yet to be tamed. With it being afternoon in Europe it still was only morning in America and Yuliya had been assigned a late shift which left her enough time to catch up with her brother and the current happenings in his life.
"Did he now?"

The screen froze for a few seconds and then the very distorted image and sound of Ace shoving Sergio away from his laptop was the next thing that reached her. Sergio took a step back. Just one however. He had really grown to like Yuliya and the work she did. It was unusual to find Mounted Police officers these days where technology had become so advanced that a lot of people would call using a horse instead of a modern police car old timey. But those horses could do some things cars couldn't: They could break the distance between the officers and the general public. They could swiftly turn and access areas where cars wouldn't get through. They made police officers approachable in a way that they could live up to their claim of 'police- your friends and helpers'.
In New York, the police horses were known and loved. Artist, the golden boy, had alwas attracted a lot of attention due to his color and dreamy eyes and it often happened that people asked if it was okay to caress the stallion or take a picture with him and his rider. Yuliya had gotten used to it. And in the meantime, she even liked the short conversations that came out of it. If she was gentle and kind to the children and the elderly, she was a little bit flirtier and cheekier to the people of her own age. Guess that was just the Wolkow blood.

"-can you just-"
"-come on-"
"-no you-"

Another still image appeared on the screen. When it started moving again, Sergio had moved to the side, leaving Ace clearly visible beside him. "So?"

"I'm still not sure. It's a long way."

"I know but it's worth it. My brother and his family would love to meet you as well."

"Okay okay, fine. I guess I could redeem some of my holidays."

"Awesome! You'll love them. And the landscape too of course." His wide grin was infectuous as Yuliya could feel the corners of her mouth move upwards as well. "I hope the weather is nice. For Artists sake."

Sergio nodded in a way that it was almost unnoticable, his dark hair only minimally following the movement his head made. "I'm sure it will be. Okay guys, I'll leave you to it. And I'll fowards you Adans phone number so you can get in contact. This is exciting!" He pushed himself away from the table and the laptop and Ace took that moment to quickly reclaim his position, accelerating the process of Sergio leaving his room with a snarled but still rather playful "Okay, now get out".

That had been about 3 months ago.

In the meantime Yuliya and her horse had arrived to Spain and acclimated themselves just enough for them to be able to appear fit and healthy at the competition.

Sergio hadn't lied. She really did take a liking to Adan and his family. He was an open and cheerful person and his facial features couldn't hide the family resemblance. His wife was just as lovely. She possessed a softness and elegance that Yuliya had barely ever come across and it drew her to her immediately. And then their daughter. A lively and spirited 4 year old who seemed very interested in knowing everything about the woman from America and the 'horse of gold' - a nickname she had given Artist upon seeing him for the first time.

It was a lucky coincidence that Yuliya still had some Spanish vocabulary present in the back of her mind as the little girl couldn't understand her English yet. And whilst it wasn't as advanced as some of her other language skills it was still enough the send a beaming smile across the girls face.
It was no surprise that she begged to accompany them for the event the following days and cried some bitter tears after being denied by her parents initially. Only when Yuliya offered her to hold a small demonstration just for her did the sadness in her eyes end up being replaced by joy.

The following day Yuliya made her way to the  Escola de Equitación Militar Arousa once more where Artist had been happily standing for the last few days and where she visited him daily. The Riding School sure was stunning. However on this particular day she barely had any time to admire the outstanding architecture and breathtaking landscape as she tacked up her equine companion and readied him for the show. Since she had taken her offical tack and outfit with her to accurately represent her unit and her work she quickly settled into her usual routine and had Artist all done and ready in a short amount of time. It even left her some time to have a chat with some other entrants and watch them showcase their skill and talent for a while before mounting her horse and warming up herself.

Artist was as calm and collected as always. Only when it was their turn and they entered the big grass arena did the muscles in his body tense and his ears turn backwards in a slightly irritated manner. He was eyeing the small jumps with noticable suspicion; Artist had never been a jumper. Granted he could sort out his legs just fine but he was too preoccupied with other things to calculate the strides correctly. He would have to rely on his rider for that.
"Let's go buddy", Yuliya whispered to the Palomino beneath her and gave him the signal to take off. All while already putting the reins into her left hand to reach for her gun with the other one.

Would you look at our favorite HARPG Mounted Unit go! They look sooo good in uniform.. the two make a great team. What a beautiful entry! The expanse of the sky and the circling clouds give such a cool effect, and the motion and smoke of the freshly-shot bullet, the transparent balloon, and those detailed twigs make such an amazing piece!

Best of luck at the show!

as always your images are dreamy and swoony and make you look at your own stuff with a ..."ok and you thought you could do something..." kind of look... if it was possible to crunch a piece of digitalpixels like a piece of paper and elegantly toss them into that pixelbin...then I would have done that with mine a looooong time ago...

And as promised a loooong time ago Puns...all the puns....
What do you get when you cross-breed a cow and a shark?
