Description For the past couple years I have been really interested in the tendency most cultures have to view birds as omens or messengers. Then a while back I had a dream about going through all the eggs in the grocery store and holding them up to the light to see what was inside. Eggs are a little like those balls they use to draw numbers for the lottery or bingo. They have that same size and shape, but also the same the same sense of expectancy. Perhaps they're holding some surprises inside. And since they come from birds, perhaps they hold omens?
For my last silk screen project I made a poster advertising the services of a fortune teller who reads your future by holding eggs up to the light and looking at the shapes inside. She mostly predicts bad things happening. Like getting chopped with an axe.

Edition of 9

The girl comes from this lovely stock.

Interesting concept. The piece seems to have an old circus banner feel to it this happened I really dig it. I love the colors (orange and green are one of my favorite color combos). I also really like the layout. You did really well with the registration for having so many colors. It may be off in a few places, but I think it gives the piece a handmade quality to it. I don’t know if it’s just the scan/photo, but I think the paper color here works really well with your color choices. I think a bright white paper would throw the mood off in this one. Anyway, enough of me blabbing. I really love this print!

Thanks! I'm glad you think the colors are okay. They made me really nervous at first because I don't normally do anything like them. I mixed and re-mixed them until I ran out of ink and had to hope they would work out.

What kind of ink did you use? I've been looking for some better screen printing ink. The only thing I can really find is speedball. I checked around online but everything seems to be for professional use in 1 gallon buckets.

This is really neat, I really like the composition. It's interesting that it has that ambient dark feel, in spite of most of the colours being rather light.

I love this so much! The cultural allusion behind it is great. I'm also fascinated with the role of birds as omens or messengers..that's why I use them so much as well. It's beautiful!

Glad you like it! ...because it tends to wind up on your walls. It would be sad if you thought it sucked and you had to look at it every day.

Thanks! Yay, I'm glad it comes across as dark enough. I was worried because 2 yellows. Sometimes yellow makes me worry.

I know! I mixed and mixed, but I just couldn't get the exact color I wanted. Finally I had to settle because I ran out of ink.
