Yeah, I don´t even know, if I can finish Thorin until next week, because I have many other things to take care of at the moment But, my mother won´t mind this, since she knows how much time I spend on my works

I did 'Final Fantasy' job class style portraits for my sister, two cousins, and a soon-to-be-cousin a couple years ago for Christmas, and all in the week before Christmas. Ahh.... it was pretty close. I finished them the night before Christmas Eve, and literally spent alllll week on them! (Can't believe I did that...) And my sister still lived in the same house as me then, so I had to do it whenever she wasn't around so she wouldn't know about it.
I don't think I'll ever do portraits so close to Christmas ever again.
But hey, even if it's a belated gift, it's still a gift that you spent a lot of time on! That's a very important and precious gift!

Yes, this one is definitively better than the first work of Thorin (even if it´s not finished, yet).  

I had to cut very much, of the original picture for the first one, since it´s only a small work and I coudln´t have to many details in it. 

This one will look a lot different. I´m looking forward, to stitch a little part of his armor, which is a real killer, detail wise.

lol It's okay to notice improvement in your own works.
No worries.  Sometimes the edits we do at first, sound really good at the time but end up not turning out so well.
I bet it is going to turn out magnificently.  I feel your pain as far as the details go.

Ja, ich finde einen besseren hätten die wirklich nicht nehmen können. Ich bin froh, dass Thorin so ,,jung" gecastet wurde und nicht so alt wie im Buch erscheint. Das passt wirklich besser in den Film.

REally!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Only a week????????? WOW! But these are massinve pieces of work! I've done a little cross stitching a few years back and it took an awful lot of time! Do you have a secret???

Yes, it´s most often a week for this size. ^^

I stitch at least 4-5 hours a day (in the evenings) and if I can manage it, I stitch almost the whole day on weekends, so that makes a difference as well. 

And I´ve some methods, which help me to stitch a little faster, like stitching an orientation and stitch around that.

That's understandable, December is really busy for us too. I'm excited to see it, but I think I'm only going to Smaug. The movie looks way different from the book. What is Legolas doing there?

Yeah, they changed a lot of things in the movies. Legolas is actually quite unnecessary for the story, that´s true. 

But, they needed to fill the movie and so, they spun a longer story, around the Woodland elves and Legolas as well. And I guess, P. Jackson thought of it as a good idea, to bring Orlando Bloom back into the movie.

I´m really looking forward, to Smaug as well From what I´ve seen so far, he looks awesome and I´m curious about his animations, especially when he speaks.

I've heard the actor who does Smaug's voice is the same guy who plays Sherlock in the TV series, Sherlock and the funny part is, the actor who plays Bilbo is Dr. Watson in the same series.

Yes, that´s Benedict Cumberbatch who also does the facial Mo-cap for Smaug and the Necromancer.

My mother and I highly suspect, that he got the Job on the Hobbit, BECAUSE Martin Freeman (who plays Watson and Bilbo) has his hands in this.  

I mean, it would have been a big coincidence, if Cumberbatch would have been castet for the Mo-cap and the voice over, just like that. Peter Jackson knows tons of good NZ actors, which could have done this job
