Kotaro.... is a confusing individual(s) I think like Magoichi there were multiple people with that name during the sengoku era so there are many conflicting stories about this man. Including many different accounts of his death.

i donnt know much about the Basara one, but the Kotaro in Musou looks aot more epic, (da wings of chaos_

You really can't get attached to the Basara one, he doesn't speak at all and his story is pretty basic in the game. Unlike Musou, Basara is 100% loyal to the Hojo so you are constantly hearing Ujimasa talk for Kotaro. Between these 2, I choose Musou simply cause he's a character you can actually get some personality out of. Not to mention the mesh shirt and claws always makes me think of a Predator.

Kotaru Fuma was cool no doubt but in history any leader of the Fuma clan went by the title of Kotaru Fuma.

That's most likely the case, since it's a ninja clan. These Kotaro's were both serving the Hojo at the same times in history though so whether or not they are different people is impossible to tell.

Funny enough, I have both of the games, and I'm surprised how many of the characters share the same name, even though their stories and appearances vary greatly.

Most of the people in these two games were real people. Nobunaga Oda for one was the ruler of Japan at one point, and is in many historical Japan games. Capcom actually started Sengoku to copy Dynasty Warriors, they just used a different war. And to counter that, Koei made Samurai Warriors. So everyone that shares a name between the two games are the same person (save Magoichi) just two different companies re-creations of that person.
