I have no words, this setup (lens + flash) is fantastic!
Do you know this striped eyes insect name?
I shooted one (more less magnificated) too, but I would name it more precisely than "bee" :d

Fascinating seeing all of the details you capture on these critters.

??? I don't think it can get better than this. At this point, he's one of the top three macro photographers on this site.

it wont improve his photography, but improved image quality, resolution and noise control will open doors to professional applications
I meant it as a compliment

I didn't think you meant it as an insult, but I still don't get how his images can be improved, resolution-wise, noise-wise, etc. I see no noise in this image, for instance. ??

you can always get better image quality, it just depends how much of a perfectionist you are, I just expect someone who's producing professional quality work like this takes alot of pride in it.
I am always annoyed at all my favourite shots I took with my 350D a couple of years back - and alot of avenues are closed to those images simply because of the body I used
Again with the 40D i changed to later, the noise control was nowhere near as good as the camera I'm using now, so I would never dare go beyond ISO 500 - restricting my image making
I mean, Alliec's setup is NOT cheap, MP-E 65; £800, twin flash; £700, I wouldnt wanna rave about the awesomeness of pro-sumer and pro bodies infront of someone who would never buy one
forgive my snooping, but if a bottom of the range consumer SLR is fine for every application, why did you shell out for a 40D?
I really didnt wanna start an argument with this, I just thought a better body would do these images justice

you're right, at this resolution, you cant really distinguish between an image taken with a 350D and a 1D. However, the camera's shortcomings might be more apparent at full resolution, as a stock image or on a large print. I like to be able to rely on my hardware for everything so I don't have to worry about compromising all the time
For someone who photographs for a hobby this might be perfectly accpetable, but Alliec obviously puts alot of time and effort in, and may want to take it further - maybe "need" was the wrong word to use, I just meant it as a compliment and I didnt really put alot of thought into it
