Description
Though I haven't finished Sonic Frontiers (just started Rhea Island), so far I'm enjoying the recurring themes and undertones. It feels a little overdone and repetitive at times, however the creeping feelings of hopelessness and loneliness, and the quiet realisation of how this place is both timeless and long gone shone through even in the happier parts of the game.
The slowly encroaching corruption and not giving up through the pain with no guaranteed respite or victory is a favourite trope of mine. A character pushing through at the slightest chance that the effort won't be fruitless, and those around them developing renewed drive as a result; I'll never tire of seeing it. Frontiers did a decent effort at it with Sage beginning to understand hope and one's own agency watching Sonic make a difference for his trapped friends and long past memories.
The Titan themes alone do a great job at summing up that feeling, especially Undefeatable. I was super excited for the Giganto fight with Super Sonic because it was the first indication that fighting back was possible. That song, the speed and the fight moves; it's now one of the best moments for me in this franchise
Drew this from my current knowledge of the game, not sure where it's headed from here.
For a fan who's almost always known the ending of a Sonic game before playing it, it's a welcome feeling
