This is the big difference I'd make out of the series. This would be a series where superman had already existed for 20 years and then quite, five years before the start of the series he quite and now helps Kara as Clark raising her as a father figure helping her through these difficult years.

Clark Kent (Caucasian, Forties): Superman had Committed murder, he couldn't live knowing he did that, so he irradiated himself of Kryptonite and left Metropolis. Married to Lois Lane he now lives on the Kent farm taking care of it, while his wife works as the Editor-In-Chief of The Daily Planet. He sees a chance to turn his young cousin into something more, and thus begins mentoring her as a Superhero.

Billy Campbell [Height: 6' 4", Age: 55, Notable Works: The Rocketeer, The Killing, Helix]: Billy is a strong actor, he certainly would have been a perfect Superman in the 1990's. He's got an All-American look too him, he's certainly got that farmboy look that really make him a perfect Clark Kent. He'd rock a mentor role.
