"You and your mutt hungry kid?" those were the first words out of Karen's mouth.

Lea was in awe. Like with the Commander, Karen Smith was a very different person in her mind. She imagined an unattractive, muscled white woman. Yet standing in front of her with a rifle casually slung in front of her was the beautiful Native-American woman and she couldn't help but to smile.

"What's funny kid?" Kim asked

"I just pictured you different." Lea said bluntly

"And...?"

"Pocahontas, supermodel, bad ass Marine..."

Karen started to laugh. "No censor on you kid. Well I was expecting some skinny asian girl...."

Lea looked lost for a second as Karen paused.

"but the Commander sent a pic ahead" Karen said as she smiled. "Who's the mutt?"

"Scooby" Leah said and they both started laughing.

"Well let's get you and Scooby fed. We'll go over the files while you get freshened up. I got a good place for you to stay, best place in our camp, in fact, because mine is the only one with two rooms."

Lea smiled. She was going to get to stay with her hero.

"Tomorrow we'll go over our plans and head out to Vegas." Kim said and paused "I hear you might have family there."

Lea shook her head.

"I know Xien, met her a couple of times, solid chick. I heard you lost your mother before all this and your dad and step mom during. I know what it's like to lose family and it actually makes me smile that despite all this heavy shit that's in these files, I get to see a family reunion."

Lea smiled. She really hadn't thought about it. She had only met her Aunt Xien once and it was over five years ago. She wondered if her Aunt would want her to stay with her...or even if she wanted to stay with her Aunt. Questions for later she thought. She smelled food and her stomach started to growl.

"Mess is that way" Karen pointed out. "The cook will show you where your bunking at and I'll see you later on tonight. Okay?"

"I will see you later then." Lea replied

"Don't let Scooby crap in my place, I don't know if we'll be back but...."

Lea laughed and head towards the mess tent.
