I finally caved and made a gemsona for myself. I watched the entire Steven Universe series over a weekend, just in time for the hiatus to kick in. The pain is real.

Petra's short for petrified wood. She was a byproduct of an early attempt to make by gems by petrifying forests. The process of crystallizing organic matter took too long and needed too specific conditions so the Kindergarten was ditched, but a few centuries after the gem war she "hatched" naturally.

She never really learned about her heritage, so she assumed that she was a human like everyone else on the planet, albeit with a strange skin complexion...and some stranger powers.

She can't summon conventional weapons from her gem, but she has the ability to crystallize plant matter (all organic matter, really) and manipulate it to her will. But she feels uncomfortable with the implications of killing something to become her puppet so rarely uses that power, relying more on hand-to-hand combat to defend herself.

Not to say Petra's a violent person. Her hobbies include making flower crowns for herself and the occasional passerby; guiding aforementioned passerby if they have lost their way; and watching the seasons change. Though she's just a tiny bit curious of what the rest of the world's like, she is pretty content staying where she is, because it is familiar and safe.
