Description Chapter 1: Fairground Antics

"Roll up, Roll up, come and see the scariest house in the country!" yelled a man, dressed as a vampire, who was located on the balcony of a haunted house. The house had been decorated so it looked like an old farmhouse, complete with grey bricks, and shattered windows. Inside of the house were various actors waiting to give the locals the scare of their lives.

Meanwhile, the fluorescent multicolored lights and the strobe lighting gave the fairground an exciting atmosphere, and various people took part in the stalls available, including a shooting range, a coconut shy, and a swing boat ride. The atmosphere was electric, as the locals and the visiting tourists buzzed with excitement, as they passed from stall to stall. Slowly, a group gathered around the haunted house, run by a local, Rick Van Der Van, a former teacher whom emigrated from the Netherlands as a child. Rick had hired several locals to act within the haunted house, which combined the classic haunted house, i.e. statues of ghosts etc whilst the actors made the house realistic. The actors used real weapons, including chainsaws, axes and scythes, to scare the hordes that regularly endured the ride.

The funfairs location, a village called Clarksbridge, just off the M2 motorway in Kent, regularly attracted hordes of tourists due to its pretty image and friendly locals, some of which have lived in the village all their lives. This particular funfair had Pagan routes, some of which were still excursive today within the local cult, called the Cult of Satan, which practiced Satanist rituals. The Village had a long history of Pagan views, and as such, the cult ad its practices are accepted within the village.

Meanwhile, Rick Van Der Van had succeeded in drumming up a large crowd, and consequently began the show, inviting some of his actors out of the house to demonstrate its terror. The real wooden door (the only part of the house that was real) flew open to a cloud of smoke, as several ghoulish and horrifying figures emerged, holding chainsaws, axes and scythes, with the crowd chanting and encouraging the actors. The atmosphere grew yet more intense, as the cold autumn night conflicted with the bright lights and electric atmosphere of the funfair to create a shocking and goose bumps filled ambiance.

The actors were dressed in a variety of costumes, from doctors to soldiers to vampires etc. Some of them had fangs dripping with blood and red eyes, others wore masks and some were headless. One actor raced out and embedded his axe into the shoulder of a fellow actor, something which quickly was identified as a trick, but for a few seconds several spectators gasped in horror, and some even looked like they were about to be sick. Finally there were the children. Some loved the demonstration, others raced away crying, and some stayed close to their parents. Eventually the demonstration finished its crescendo, with the actors collapsing amid a giant cloud of fake blood, generated by the detonation of special effect blood pacts hidden underneath their costumes.

Eventually a dynamic crash of applause erupted, just as the actor's adrenaline reached boiling point, with the actors racing back into the house ready for the time of their life in scaring the hordes of people waiting to visit the haunted house. Up on the balcony, Rick waited for a couple of minutes, allowing time for the crowd to vent their delight at the spectacle they had just witnessed. The man, in his forties, with graying black hair, looked up excitedly at the sky, knowing that the hard work had only just begun, before taking deciding to talk to crowd "Everyone, please can you calm down and listen to me for a few moments. First of all I'm glad you have enjoyed that spectacle, the worst is yet to come. Due to your sheer volume I must ask you to be patient, as we attempt to get everyone around the haunted house. May I please ask people who have a history of heart conditions or a nervous disposition to avoid the house a I do not want any health issues / injuries to arise. Thank-you and watch out, you never know who is about!" The crowd erupted yet again into a crash of applause, with Rick wondering if the crowd had really listened to his little talk.

However, before Rick could ponder further, a figure emerged from behind him, armed with a chainsaw. Rick turned around hearing the whirring sound the tool. Suddenly, the figure plunged the chainsaw into Rick's chest, the poor man being hauled forward further onto the rapidly turning blade, a large cloud of blood erupting from his chest. The crowd, transfixed on the house, thought that this was part of the ride, and chanted to Rick and the figure on the Balcony. Eventually, the figure dropped the lifeless figure and hurriedly disappeared from view, the crowd still none the wiser that a man had just been horrifically murdered. It wasn't until a few minutes later when a woman, dressed as a witch with a bright green wig, a fake nose, fake warts, a black cape and a broom emerged from the house, letting out an ear piercing and stomach churning scream, whilst trying to say the phrase "MURDER! PLEASE MURDER! SOMEONE HELP! THERE'S BEEN A MURDER! " It wasn't until that moment that the crowd fell silent….
