Description Chapter 1: Evensong

"Let all the world in every corner sing, my God and King!
The heavens are not too high, his praise may thither fly,
the earth is not too low, his praises there may grow.
Let all the world in every corner sing, my God and King!

Let all the world in every corner sing, my God and King!
The church with psalms must shout, no door can keep them out;
but, above all, the heart must bear the longest part.
Let all the world in every corner sing, my God and King!"

Westminster Abbey shook as the dozens of people packed inside of Westminster Abbey sang the hymn above, from the majestic singing of the choir to the drones of the followers; the resulting sound was immense, along with the smell of burning as candles burned on the altar. Sat in the back row was Emily Cook, a former drug addict and heavy drinker attempted to sing the hymn, with little success. Emily, now a woman of God, had been saved from a life of hell and turned into the direction of God by a priest, Reverend Richard Osborne, whom had found her unconscious on the pavement just outside of the main entrance to the Abbey. He took her inside of the Abbey and called an ambulance, as well as praying for her to survive. Shortly after she began to recover in hospital, he visited her, and said that if she was to join him in regularly attending church, God could in turn save her from a life of sorrow and an afterlife of hell. This latest experience however, had made the young Emily, just 20 at the time, realise that she could not carry on the way she was.

Emily had run away from home in Sittingbourne, Kent, at the age of 18 after a major argument with her parents. When she got to London, she was forced to live on the streets, until she met a man called Mark, whom gave her a place to stay, but also turned her into a drug addict. After 2 years of constant drug use, she had lost a third of her body weight, partly because of the anorexia she had gained as a result of the drug abuse. She was also weak, very weak. The fateful night that Father Richard had found her, he body had given in. She owned him her life, and as a result, she tried coming to church, which turned into something that would change her life around. Eventually, she plucked up the courage to become a regular at the Abbey, as she was impressed by its pure architectural decadence and grandeur. In fact, the beautiful interior fascinated her, so much so that she was currently writing a history of the Abbey, something which her now good friend Richard Osborne had encouraged her to do.

As the hymn stopped and the Dean said the closing prayers /  blessing, she felt connected to God, and the burning desire to come again tomorrow. She had found a new way of life, and one which fascinated her, which, is a good combination. As the evensong came to a close, she remembered that she had to speak to Reverend Osborne immediately to clear up an issue that she had stumbled into. At that moment, the Reverends and the Dean walked down the aisle and toward the Great North Door, followed by the remaining congregation and Emily. As Emily walked towards to door, she saw Reverend Osborne at the door, speaking to people as they left the Abbey, and after the majority of people had left she approached him he spoke to her in a calm, soothing voice "Ah Miss Cook, how did you find this evening service?" to which Emily replied "Very good thank-you Reverend, could you spare me a few minutes to have a private conversation?" "Absolutely my child, come with me and we shall talk" replied Reverend Osborne, as they walked away from the door and began to walk around the passageways of the great Abbey.

Meanwhile, in Henry VII's Lady Chapel, a cloaked figure kneeled before an altar, praying for forgiveness for the actions he was about to commit. On the floor next to him was an iron spear head, a reproduction of a roman one. Also present next to him was a small claw hammer, one which looked pretty knew, and was probably from one of the DIY boxes stored in the Abbey. The cloaked figure stood up, reached into his pocket and revealed a handful of 5 inch iron nails, before placing them back into his pocket. He left the Chapel and headed to the Great North Door, where he caught a glance of the Reverend Richard Osborne as a young woman walking around a corner and towards the cloister, to which he eagerly followed them...

At 6am the following morning, Reverend Richard Osborne opened the large wooden doors which made up the Great North door, using a large metal key. The mighty doors swung open, and the eager Reverend moved through the doors before closing them after them. Then he turned around, and witnessed an horrific scene, one which would haunt him for life.....
