If they were to stick to the monster-bird fear in the movie adaptation, I would've made Pennywise torment Mike by taking the form of a Skeksis from The Dark Crystal. That movie scared the shit out of kids in the '80s, and being from '82 and the movie being set in '89 makes sense that Mike saw that film as a small child.
