Helena tried to prevent the ninjas from nosediving into conflict, she tried to stop them. But Hayate had other plans and believed that it's the only way to obtain peace within their clan, believing that it's his duty to defeat their enemies head-on.

Which led to this type of unfortunate altercation between the two. And when the smoke cleared, it was Hayate who was able to will his resolve forward at the cost of defeating Helena. It was a victory that Hayate felt little regret, but to him it was the only way.
