wouldn't it be more like United Socialist Townships Republic of America? U.S.T.R.A. since Soviet is Russian for Council, and it was referring to the local workers councils that were suppose to have power.

Don't forget the Soviet Socialist Republic of Canada. If they declared themselves independent from Great Britain, who do you think would be more likely to support their fight for independence? The British- Allied US or the peace loving peasants and workers of the Soviet Union- just across the Bering Strait.

It would threaten to tip the very delicate balance of M.A.D and plunge the world into Global Thermo-Nuclear war. Not even the Soviets were insane enough to try that.
